SP 8.53: Can I print FX to selected clips within a track?

I only want to print an eq plug to certain clips within a track--but not to other clips in the same track.  Can it be done?

Can't figure out how to do this and can't find it in the manual or Garrigus book.

I stupidly forgot I had the hardware eq off when tracking some clips that I already cut up and edited.  Would save lots of time just to print a plug to those clips.

Thanks for your help!

One way to do it would be to select the clip, or portion of a clip, and go to Process>Audio Effects/vst plugins. You can print the FX to the clip/s that way but it doesn't give you many options as to previewing the effect before you apply it.

Another way is put the FX in the FX bin of the track, select the clip/s, and go to Process>Apply Audio Effects. This will print the effect/s to the clip/s and you have the option of previewing the effect before applying it. This will work if the clips are separate clips and not just regions of the same clip.

Another option would be to move the clips to a new track, which would give you more options... such as using sends.

All excellent suggestions, Chappel.  Thanks!  I kinda figured out the first, but was too chicken to complete the process.  Your second way looks best to me.  I'll experiment on a cloned track.

+1 on the moving them to new tracks, but there's a better way, IMO.  right click on the clip, choose INSERT EFFECTS>AUDIO FX>

and choose the FX you want to use.  this will create a little "FX BIN" in the upper left hand corner of the clip with that FX in it.  you can add more or delete them or bypass them just like you would in the FX bin.  this gives you great flexibility because you can put an FX on the entire track, like maybe a compressor, and then you can cut up a clip and put a gate only on that clip!  excellent workflow!

and it's completely non-desctructive that way.  unlike the PROCESS>EFFECTS is.  I never use that unless I absolutely have to.

Awesome, Beagle.  That is what I need to do!  Sonar is a pretty deep program.  I've been learning it for 8 years now.

Also, if you have got an effect already set up on a track and you would prefer it to be on a clip instead, you can simply drag and drop it onto the clip (or vice versa).

Also, if you want to put different FX to different clips, I'd use Clip FX , like Kev999 suggests.
You just need to split the clip accordingly, if there's just one long clip.

That's pretty cool. I never even noticed that feature.

Yeah, it is!  I don't remember when it first came out.  S8 maybe?  or maybe 7, I skipped S7 so it might have been there.  it wasn't in S6.  but it's very useful for putting FX on clips that you don't need on the whole track.

The clip fx bin was present in version 6, as far I as recall.

you are correct Kev - thanks for the correction.  Maybe it was 5 that didn't have it, I don't know because I don't have 5, but I know it wasn't in 4.

I've just done some googling and discovered that it was introduced in version 5.
