SPLAT, X32 emulation of Mackie Control users - need advice please

I ran into a problem with base Sonar Platinum sending phantom controller info to my X32 in Mackie Controller DAW mode.

Since SPLAT moves the X32 sliders on me sporadically during playback in DAW mode on a blank project, SPLAT is basically useless to me for live playback of projects until I can resolve this issue. X3 does not exhibit this issue. I would like to be able to use SPLAT to do this.

I recently read that there was an INI missing from recent updates of SPLAT. I know basically not much about the Mackie Controller and I am trying to learn more. I think if I understand the Mackie that it may help me understand the X32 emulation of it in SPLAT.

Would there be any settings in the Mackie Controller INI that would help with this moving fader issue?

I would really like to take the X32 and SPLAT on a laptop to record and playback in the field. I would like to have backing tracks playback when playing live with automated sliders as I have the mix set. Does anyone use SONAR like this?

Peace,

I use Sonar Platinum with an X32 exactly like this (24 track backing mix + midi guitar patch changes and midi lights via a single dmx  universe using an Enttech Dmxis). I use snippets and scenes via midi to control mix changes on the desk. The issue must be with the DAW control function as I have never had a problem with randomly moving faders. Given that you can automate (and exclude) all mix parameters using scenes and snippets, do you really need to use DAW control?

Thanks Bruce, That is a good question. I haven't tried it outside of DAW mode. I am able to disable the fader movement in the X32, but I would like to be able to use it so anyone in the group can get a visual on the mix at anytime in case they need to change something.

Do you use the midi from SONAR to change the snippets and scenes on the X32 also?

Do you send the fader movement to the X32 during playback, or let the application tell you what the mix is mostly?

    Hey Conley.

I set up the various scenes and snippets on the X32, then use Sonar to recall them. If you set the show control mode on your X32 to scenes and snippets,  Midi channel 1 program changes will recall scenes, and Midi channel 2 program changes will recall snippets. You simply assign 2 midi tracks in Sonar to output to the Xusb card. No midi lead is necessary - it is integrated into the usb connection. The faders will still move when scenes or snippets change, so the band will still get visual feedback. The real flexibility is in using snippets. You can choose exactly which parameters on the desk you wish to change. You could, for example, change just a single fx send level on a single channel, right up to every setting on the desk. Once you start to play with it you will see the potential.

DAW control is really only of use if you want to change the mix in the Sonar project itself. It would also only be stored if you were to re-save the project in Sonar after the change. The other consideration is that no control surface that I have used plays well with an active Sonar playlist if you intend to use that feature.
