SSL Nucleus help
Hi I've just bought an SSL Nucleus controller and I'm struggling to get it to work with Sonar. I have it set in Sonar as a MCU and the faders seem to be recognised, bur the controllers don't work (Play button plays for an instant then stops) Any ideas to help me please? Dylan

The MCU had a setting to tell it to work with Sonar I think mine worked fine without fiddling It looks like the Nucleus is primarily for Logic, although it will work with other DAWs (they say) Perhaps there is a setting for Sonar? Sorry I can't be more help

Did you get your Nucleus working with Sonar? I am considering it myself.

Maybe MTC/MMC should be set? I checked the SSL website but it needs a registered user... Maybe some help there?

I can't help but would really like to know how this turns out. I went with V-Studio 700 for price and ease of integration and I am happy, but I have given the SSL a look several times. If it integrates well, you will have a great set-up: SSL makes good stuff and the Nucleus is a nice-looking, well-laid out piece of gear.

Hi there Pages 21, 22 & 23 for the Nucleus' manual have the only info I can see on setting it up. I would also like to know if you get this resolved so please come back and let us know. I quite fancy having 16 faders in a nice controller but don't like the idea of paying for an SSL Matrix. I think SSL shot themselves in the foot with the price of the Matrix. I only wish Cakewalk/Roland would create a groovy 16 fader control surface. SSL Nucleus Manual Protocols DAW control protocols are selected as part of the Layer’s Profile, configured in the Profile Setup area in the top left corner of the Remote’s DAW tab. There are four default Profiles supplied with Nucleus: - A HUI Profile configured for Pro Tools - An MCU Profile configured for Logic - An MCU Profile configured for Nuendo/Cubase - A Continuous Controller (CC) Profile for use with MIDI devices These Profiles provide starting points for the creation of more personalised Profiles. They include only basic soft key assignments, allowing plenty of space for the user to configure their own Profiles. Profiles for other DAW packages can also be created from the default Profiles, using the Pro Tools default Profile for DAWs that support the HUI interface, and the Logic default Profile for DAWs that conform to the MCU protocol. Note that the default Profiles themselves cannot be edited. Profiles are personalised by creating copies of a default Profile which can then be edited, as described on the following pages. Does Sonar use HUI? Stewart

I ran into similar issues with configuring the Presonus Faderport (opposite end of the Control Surface spectrum, I know.) Essentially you need to make sure: 1. The Nucleus' MIDI ports are being used by Sonar 2. The Nucleus is set up as a Control Surface 3. Key Aftertouch and Channel Aftertouch are checked under MIDI options Page 23 and 24 of Presonus' manual mentions the menus where these options sit and may help (substitute your Nucleus wherever applicable.) http://www.presonus.com/media/manuals/FaderPort_manual_v2x-web.pdf Peace, Tunes

Dylan Remember and come back and let us know if what Tunekicker suggested in the FaderPort manual works. Stewart

If you are using it in Logic Control Mode it wont work well with Sonar. Sonar has its own setup for the MCU. For the MCU to work it should be it native MCU mode. Judging by the way the SSL is setup it doesn't have a real MCU mode. Meaning the basic MCU configuration. I would ask for a true MCU mode for your CS. Logic Control and Mackie Control are not the same thing. You want Mackie Control. Most DAWs will work with a Mackie Control set to MCU mode but not with it set to LC mode. Sonar will not work with HUI. HUI is for PT.

Does this mean that the Nucleus will never work with Sonar if the SSL setup does not have Native/True MCU mode?

I would guess that it wont. However, I can't see why they would give it LC mode and no MC mode. That makes no sense to me.

Muziekschuur at home My SI24 is in logic mode when controlling Sonar. There's working and than there's working as it is supposed to. The button assignments shouldn't be the same. The transport may be the same and the faders may be also but as the OP noted not much else.
