SSL X-Patch..
Brand new... http://www.solid-state-logic.com/music/xlogic%20x-patch/ I was trying to work out if there's any reason why this little box can't double up as a 16 x 16 AD & DA converter (I know that IS what it is, but you know what I mean!)... Looks really good and useful!

At first glance I don't think it ever digitizes the analog audio... so it's not a A/D/A converter. If I understand it correctly it is a digitally controlled analog switcher. Sort of like an automated patch bay. best regards, mike

SSL always has the most confusing copy. If I'm reading it right it is simply an electronically controlled analog patchbay, so you can repatch electronically rather than physically. There is no AD/DA. It would be nice if they did build in their converters w/ it. @
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

You could automate much of the studio. The mic / guitar version could also include some guitar extender technology that would maintain the sound correctly on it's way to the pedal farm. Could be very handy for big live setups also.

Could be very handy for big live setups also. Not all line level. Read this: Key Features - Inserts analogue processors into production workflow like plug-ins
- Suited to studio production and live performance applications
- Insert chains can be created, saved and recalled
- Browser software controls routing and set up
- Ethernet connection to Mac or PC host computer
- 16 x 16 pure analogue routing matrix
- Rear panel audio connection via 4 x 25 way D-Subs
- Front Panel XLR inputs and outputs for channels 1 & 2
- SSL SuperAnalogue transparent audio performance
- MIDI connectivity enables use of Programmable Foot controllers
- +4dB and -10dB operating levels facilitate use of guitar pedals etc
I don't see any reason you couldn't use it to route mics and such. Also see this video on SSL's YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/us...os#p/a/f/1/3s8LSbSzx1E

Jack, A typical spec for a mic input is -60dBu +4dBu or dBm is pro line level -10dBv is consumer grade line level The specs don't seem to mention mic inputs or (pre)amplification or gain at all. best regards, mike

Just spoke to SSL, and it does infact ONLY route signals in the analogue domain - I had the idea it would act like a hardware I/O from the PC with ASIO drivers etc, that would make it a killer product IMO. With this thing, it IS really just a line-level patchbay, so you still need something to provide the Out and In from the PC. I must have jumped the gun as I thought someone had at last created something I've been craving! But alas... :O)

LJB, the SSL product is a way to keep from repatching your analog under digital control. There used to be a digital router, Z something or other. But most of that takes place in your DAW, now, tho in some bigger setups it would be nice. @
