STOP recording Automatically after 24 minutes: SONAR X2

here's what i'd try:
- set up a loop region somewhat longer i.e. 24 min plus what it takes to change tapes
- set up punch in and out points for a 24 min stint
- make sure you have preferences/project/record/group clips across tracks
- start recording, keep it running and just change tapes
- i don't know the portastudio 424, but you might be able to use a MIDI signal from Sonar to trigger playback automatically

FYI, with clips group across track active, you can later move/mute/etc. the content from each tape (4 tracks) together ...

I don't think there's any way you can do that

There is no getting around it. When you are transferring any analog recordings to digital you should do it at the original speed of the recording. Frequency response will be maintained much better. If your tapes were recorded at double speed that is a good thing at least you were getting the best sound possible at the time.

I know you may not want  to hear this but you should also be there while it is happening in real time. There are advantages to being there and monitoring the process. The main one being creating a database as you go and generate information about the recordings. That way you will be able to find things later. You also get to hear everything at least once.

I realise you have a large number of tapes but is there a hurry. Maybe just do a few a day and you will get through them eventually. Like 3 per hour is not a bad thing. You will only need 23 hours to do it all! Don't forget to clean the transport in between tapes otherwise you risk the heads getting clogged up at some point and if you are not around when it is happening you wont hear that either.
