STUPID *&^%$%! Idiot DRIVERS!What upsets you the most? And why?

I had to go to North Carolina the other day from Georgia, anybody that knows the trip knows you normally go by the Ocoee and Nantahala - I doubt I spelled that right, but nobody's perfect.

What ticks me off is the fact that going around those dangerous areas : "THERE WAS NO POLICE OR NOTHING", meaning if you have a wreck or get hurt you are just flat out history!  The people with the Tags from around those areas : "When they would see a sign that said Dangerous curve 25MPH proceed with caution, they'd hit them at 45MPH and gun it out of those curves, AFTER RIDING MY ARSE and passing me for being safe because I didn't know the roads!!!!!!"...... 

The lack of Law Enforcement in those areas is what bothers me the most, I understand there's no place for them to park and watch what's happening, but that doesn't mean they can't add some TICKET camera's.  <---------That probably will tick some of you off, but hey, the bottom line I didn't feel safe and I wanna complain about it because I WAS FOLLOWING THE LAW!!!!!! There is NO EXCUSE FOR NOT DOING SO!!

That being said, and don't make a joke of my comment because I'm serious about what happened.

What upsets you the most about drivers who break the law while driving?

Using a cellphone? Texting? Smoking? Drinking? Putting on Makeup?

sounds like you were on....is it 64 highway, through cleveland tennessee.. yep pretty sharp curves and very dangerous. i lived there for a bit..people are asses, they don't care...

Ah!  That might be:

The fat texting teenager girl that side-swiped me with fake insurance (parents acted coy) ... and got away with it scott-free.

Only in Madison County, Alabama.

 
I don't see the relevance of her weight in telling this tale Philip - although not a teenage girl, I am a little on the large size and feel your post is insensitive and rather spiteful.
 
If you were furnishing a police officer with details of her weight in the hope that by providing an accurate description of the girl it would facillitate her arrest then that's fair enough I guess. But to use the 'F' word, even in that scenario, I still think is a little cruel.
 
And let's not beat about the bush, that revolting word certainly has no place on a friendly forum where a lot of us salad-dodgers are likely to read it.
 
Some of us just have big bones you know, or a glandular complaint.

Bobby, sounds like you were in NASCAR country there.  Did you not see 'Talladega Nights' or 'Smokey and the Bandit'

We have a road here in South Orange County called the Ortega Highway. What used to be a leisurely country road through very picturesque mountains from the ocean to the desert, is now nothing less than a race course for bikers. The corners that wind along the face of the mountain are sharp, blind and extremely dangerous and yet the bikers will run at top speed along the solid orange line that runs between lanes. They weave in and out of cars and every Saturday, there is some poor guy whose brains or bones get splattered on the highway. Off-road bikers that can't differentiate when they are on-road is what drives me nuts here.

This and when a stunningly gorgeous woman breaks down on the side of the freeway here in LA. That always slows traffic, but the cops show up right away when that happens.

• People talking on their mobile phones (not hands-free) and, even worse - texting
• People who can't be bothered to position their vehicle correctly in the road when turning
• People who can't be bothered to indicate when using a roundabout
• People who drive at 36mph on a 60mph limit road (and always when there's nowhere to overtake) and then speed up to 42mph when they enter a 30mph built up area (or up to 44mph when going past a 20mph school zone)
• People who tailgate
• Impatient driving
• Selfish driving
• People who don't tax/MOT/insure their cars thereby costing the rest of us a fortune in higher payments
• People who cut you up, especially when they can't even be bothered to indicate
• People who use their fog lights when it's er... not foggy
• People who can't be bothered to check their lights once in a while, and who consequently drive around until the MOT (if they even bother with one) with missing headlamps, tail lamps and brake lights; strangely enough, the same peoples' fog lights always work
• People who (admirable) pull over to take a mobile phone call but just have to stop in the most awkward and dangerous place possible (double yellow lines/brow of a hill/bus lane etc)
• People who (illegally) rearrange the characters on their numberplates to make it look like a word, which it never does
• People with illegally tinted front windows (they have these to conceal their mobile phone use you know)
• People who drive under the influence of alcohol/drugs
• The traffic police, who it seems can't ever be bothered to prosecute anyone for committing any of the above
• Sanctimonious buggers like me

You pretty much covered them all. The lack of respect for the danger of what a vehicle moving slow or fast is what bothers me the most. To some "It's just a car truck etc...", but to me it's a heavy weight moving bullet if it's not operated the right way.

I'm on those roads, I've got family on those roads. It bothers me that people don't understand that there is a reason for speed limit's, and the lack of respect for others by putting them in an unsafe situation because they are in a hurry or whatever reason.

If I could I'd say to those idiots "If you ever really need to get somewhere on time, BE RESPONSIBLE" - "LEAVE EARLY", don't risk my life and my family members lives or others and their families lives for something that I guarantee you IS NOT AS IMPORTANT.

Well, it was a 5 hour drive to get to North Carolina, and 5 Back. The thing I noticed the most about the people driving on these narrow restricted roads were the fact that most of the time their speeding habits didn't change when getting off of the highway's.  When I've been somewhere with others driving I find myself telling them : "Slow down, your not on a 70 MPH limit anymore".

It seems like once a person drives for such a long time doing 70 with the windows rolled up and a quiet vehicle, they don't realize that they are going so fast sometimes.  It wouldn't matter if they were doing 45, once a person goes so long in a straight line toward a destination, until they hit the exit ramp in my opinion, their realization of the speed they are really going are all outa whack for a while.

I dunno what could be done about that, except to make others aware of it, or have more state troopers at exit ramps or around those areas.

  I was in Nascar Country no doubt, and some of those freaking 18 wheeler drivers taking them sharp curves were really disturbing going over the speed limit, especially considering they were carrying gasoline.

Oh well, I guess I'm going to get pegged as someone who does nothing but complain = opinion ignored and not relevant.

At least I tried. As for all the comments about "Your state/area or our state/area, This is about ALL AREAS", sensible people deserve license, and it's ashamed there is no law enforcement in that area I was talking about, that's the only reason the people were driving on their own terms which were dangerous for me and my family because WE DID NOT KNOW THE ROADS and I don't think we should have been put in that situation for not knowing them when we were following the speed limit laws.

I would say they were being kind and looking out for your best interests.... they were obviously trying to get off the road and out of your way, so you could safely navigate the roads that they know so well..... making for less traffic on the roads and hence a safer drive for you.

And yeah, the twisty, turney roads on NC.... the training grounds for NASCAR drivers.... before NASCAR became popular, they were cutting their racing teeth running "Shine" and running from  the "revenuers" .


I do have to confess I thought this was a "computer" driver thread....


the drivers that really torque me are the ones with a book or newspaper propped open on the steering wheel and a cup of coffee in the other... while navigating in heavy traffic at interstate speeds.


I try not to do that very often.....

I understand what you are saying, but they weren't being nice, they were breaking the law plain and simple. Sorry if this upset's you, but that's what happened. 

 Waving the hand as so to say "GO ON" was not nice. I didn't know the roads, so I followed the signs, which is what they were implying by their actions while passing.

I'm not sure I ever was on Ortega Highway but Mulholland? Oh yes.


Actually anywhere in the greater LA area is not so great for me....that's why I moved back to north of London ON....

In NJ, I had a guy point a shotgun at me through his back window, got sideswiped by an 18 wheeler, screamed at, swore at, a guy threatened to kill me one time at a stop light because he thought I got too close to his back bumper. I admit I accidentally cut the guy off who pointed the shotgun at me, but sheesh, was that necessary?

It used to take me an hour to drive 21 miles to my shop in PA in the morning. When I went to training classes in Secaucus ... a 40 mile drive from my house ... 3 hours! The closer you get to NYC the worse it is.

No wonder there is such a thing as "ROAD RAGE", if you spend a day or so driving in Atlanta Georgia you'll understand.   Mostly on the off ramps, it's a mess, JMO.

I'll see your Atlanta turn-offs and raise you Toronto's  400 series highways...particularly 400 North and South bound on beginning and ends of weekends....bad bad bad...

Actually any stretch of the 401 from Windsor clear through Toronto. The are through London to Woodstock on a winter like this past one has been something of a nightmare..especially when the snowsqualls hit...

The stretch between London and Toronto is one of the busiest in terms of traffic volume in N.A. right now..
