    Hi, David,

This is a very nicely done, short but sweet piece of orchestration!

The instrumentation sounds very authentic, reminds me of the New York Philharmonic performances my parents took me to when I was a kid.  Fond memories!  What library did you use for that, it sounds really great!

It did kind of cut off abruptly at the 1:16 mark, I wasn't sure if it was really supposed to be that short, or if there was a glitch on Bandcamp.

Either way, nice composition, great stuff!

    Have a good one!

That's what my wife says about me :)

I like it so far - weirdly reminds me of Alan Silvestri's Back to the Future score.
It sounds very much like an introduction to a theme - do you have another piece that you could bolt this onto the beginning of?

Ya I think I agree.  It's kind of like an introduction.

It's a good introduction composition - maybe bring a piano into it for the next section?  That's what I heard in my head anyway.

You've described the mood of the Funeral Games very well. Next Aeneas must sail to Italy, and with the guidance of Sibyl, find the entrance to the terrifying underworld, Dis, in order to visit his dead father and be told the future of Rome.

    David ,

After a few listens , I think you are off to a good start 0 to 1:16 ...
This may be of little help to you but I will go over it anyway ...

One thing I like to do for myself is to take a mix of an idea I'm working on and export it as is in it's current state and then place it back into a DAW for an editing  chop session
Lengthening sections , time stretching sections ,re arranging things around ,
Changing Keys , Making Majors minors to sevenths ....holding common chord tones while letting the other chord voices and sections move ...
While using my own material as a melodic / harmonic or rhythmic reference track I enjoy  taking a section that is lightly instrumented and making up a version w different instruments for a dense orchestra ...or the opposite ...
Taking the fundamental melodic content  and repeating it including variations using various octaves while  using anything from a solo instrument , duet .  quartet up to how ever many tracks I my need to get my idea across..

if it is of any consolation to you I have tons of stuff that I have worked on that are still works in progress ..
    It's all good ...

    Kenny

The internet is nothing more than a glorified real time cartoon we all star in.
    I play a "Gibson " R 8 Les Paul Cherry Sunburst .
The Love of my Life is an American Bulldog Named Duke . I'm currently running Cakewalk By BandLab as my DAW .

After Aeneas' father died, Aeneas set-up a sort of wake that included sporting games. Afterwards they (the Trojans) sailed to Italy where he was shown the entrance to the underworlds.

The chapter on the underworlds was the only interesting part of The Aeneid to me. The rest was fairly bland except for some of the symbolism. But it is an epic poem that deserves an epic music score. It's the type of thing you can do, I'm sure. Anyway, just a suggestion.

Sorry, I misread, of course the Aeneid.  It's been awhile...err a very long time since I read that.  I really appreciate the sentiments.  I'm still stuck however. :(

I like it, quite cinematic. Could be an opening to a rom-com. No idea how to progress it though.

well, if it was me, I would select 4 bars before 1:16, and reverse them, then I would copy those four bars and add an inverse reverb, then I copy that again , and I would create a bus and put a delay onto it but fade it in slowly, and then I would select the first 1:16 and paste it to there, and I would add some drums, and as it played out I would punctuate the whole thing with some guitar stabs, and then add another track and fade in a nice pad that had some movement, automate the modulation, and tweak the pitch.

    That's what I would do

Very nice start indeed!  It definitely has a cinematic theme to it.  Rather than some of the cinema mentioned above, I got a Star Wars feeling from it (ya ---- I know).  However, I could see the dark-side lords making an entrance through a grand hall past the massive Empire troops.  At the point where the music cuts off (1:16) I can see some surprise event occurring that was perpetuated by the Rebels.  At this point, perhaps, the music could take off in a bit of an uptempo frenetic manner until some sort of order is established by one side or the other.

Or --- maybe not?!.  I'm just saying...

Any way very good start and I am looking forward to you posting the completed song.

To me it sounds a little like Gershwin. Bits of it anyway. Might be an inspiration to listen to Rhapsody in Blue.
