SWA Video Question ~ Answered ~

Probably not the best forum for this but I know Karl hangs out here more than the other forums.
Ok, can the SWA X2 video be loaded and watched on the iPad as easily as the groove3 videos?
If not, is there a way and how.
Not at home to try so hoping someone here has done it already

Thanks,
Mike

I'm not Karl, but equally handsome.

I have no experience in how easy it is to put the Groove3 vids on an iPad but I know this: The iPad can only play iThingy formatted files from the default video player. If you download to GoodPlayer or simmilar apps then you can play other formates as well, however. Some streaming apps (from NAS disks) can also stream other filetypes. But if you want to store the video on the iPad and use the built in video player then you need to convert them to the appropriate format if the SWA isn't delivered in iFormatedvideo already.

I use a software from Xilisoft which is really quick and easy and cost only $19 dollars IIRC, but I know there are other software that are just as good and free. (Handbrake I think?)

When the file is converted you simply sync it up to your device and off you go.

With groove3 they give you mp4 files that you just drag and drop into iTunes then hit sync.
I hope SWA is as easy.

Hi Mike..... I'll try and answer the question but I don't have an ipad so I don't actually *know* the answer.

The finished video that I have is in m4v format. Since then I'm fairly sure that it was split into chapter sized files rather than one large one, or was at least on the SWA site.

I think rather than give you duff gen I'll contact Chris at SWA and link him to this thread so you can get an answer from the horses mouth (so to speak - not calling you a horse Chris... ).

Hopefully he'll have a factually correct answer for you rather than my best guessing.

The SWA videos work great on the iPad, all nicely broken up into chapters from which you can easily select any of them to view.

Karl did a nice job, btw, and although I've been using Sonar/Cakewalk for the past two decades (since the floppy disk days) I still found a few things I didn't know, especially as I had not used the X series as much (while completing my album I tended to stick with 8.5.3 and only delved into X1 occasionally).

My recommendation:  buy the SWA videos, drag the files on your iPad, and you'll be happy you did.

Hi folks,

Just to clear up the format question with our video.  The video is in deed an iDevice friendly format and can be played on the lasted versions of the iPods/iPhones/iPads.  The video contains multiple files and is set up as a TV Show in iTunes.  We recommend importing the files into your iTune library - which they will appear in the TV Show section.  Each chapter is listed as an episode to make it easier to navigate when watching with an iDevice or even from an Apple TV.

Hope this helps.

The video I downloaded was from the cakewalk store where I purchased it. It was not multiple files but one very big file. It would be nice to have the videos divided into sections instead of attempting to remember where I left off and picking up from there. I am about half way through. the one video is 9 hours long! wow!!!!

Is there any way I can get the version that is cut into sections at the cakewalk store? Thanks

Marcus, just in case you're not aware of it, in Karl's signature there's a link to a table of contents pdf for the video with sections and times. I printed it out. Very useful !

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the heads up on the table of contents. I would still like to get them chopped up by chapter. I think if I can't get it that way I will just use Vegas to hack it up by chapters. Just for personal use and reference in case I need to find some info fast.

Re:SWA Video Question 2013/01/03 09:38:58 (permalink)
Hi I've been in contact with CW customer service about the HD (1080p) version of the SWA video being available. I purchased the original 720p version but would prefer the HD version for more detail. I did get a reply saying that they were being given the new format video for download and that when I try to download again the HD version would be available. I tried and it wasn't, still the 720p version. (This was a couple of weeks ago). I have replied but have heard nothing back yet. Try contacting customer support, the more customers that ask the more likely we will get our way! SJD

Re:SWA Video Question 2013/01/03 09:55:08 (permalink)
SJD,

My guess is that maybe the HD version is the one that is divided into sections or segments. I was not really a big fan of the SWA Sonar X2 Mix Clinic, but it is divided up into smaller sections. For me it makes going through the course much easier.

For example, If I can't remember a certain thing that was said about working with the video or the step sequencer, instead of calling up the 9 hour video and scrolling half way through it, I just click on the segment and watch it from there.

While I have been going through this series that Karl put together, I am starting to become convinced that his video is the most informative one out there. There is a lot of information to digest. Karl knows his stuff!

If you watch the video on a PC using QuickTime, you can use the drop down on the lower right to list all the chapters and jump to where you want to be.  I do not seem to be able to find this index anywhere using Windows Media Player, and was in the process of writing all the times down until I tried QuickTime.

I really don't care much for quick time. I downloaded and installed the player and I see the area where I can see the list of chapters. That makes things easier. I would still rather use Windows Media Player, but this does solve my problem. Now I am curious about the HD version.

Thanks Grif

I logged into the cakewalk account an just downloaded the SWA complete video. I purchased this a while back and it was one huge 9 hour file.

The new download had everything divided up into chapters. Thank you Karl and thank you cakewalk. This is much easier to go through now.

If you had purchased this and you wanted it divided up into smaller segments just log into your cakewalk account and download it again.
