S&G or Bangles?

I don't know about any of you, but I've always liked the Bangles' version of Hazy Shade of Winter better than S&G's.

and that version was just last year at SXSW.  They're still smokin' - they're excellent musicians, IMO.  my utmost respect for them.

S&G, whilst the bangles are pleasant on the eye I remember buying this album, Bookends, on its release it holds a special place in my history.

We used to play that song and we always did the Bangles version - damn they did a great job with that song!

Now I've got it running through my head, but I'm NOT annoyed - lol.

Thanks Beagle ! I thought I was over my unrequited Susanna crush, now it turns out I'm not at all ! I've spent to many years telling myself she's probably fat and ugly now, so it's ok.  See what you've gone and done now ! ;)

As for the song - it's a tough call as I think with any S&G song, at least the ones I know, it's hard to say that anyone does them better. It's a good version though.

They obviously don't know how to transpose. Pffft.

Love those Bangles. I had no idea that was a S&G song. I knew it was a remake. A bit surprised to hear drums and was pleasantly surprised at the S&G version. I thought they were folk only. But they don't have Susanna Hoffs in the band so I have to go with the Bangles still.

I like them both.  I'm leaning towards S&G purely because Paul Simon wrote it and I heard it by them first.

Perhaps straddling the fence here, but plus one to S& G for writing a song 46 years ago that has stood the test of time, and plus one to the Bangles for doing a respectable version of it.

@ RobertB - I contend that the song has "stood the test of time" because of the Bangles' version.

I like both - which is best depend on my mood, but the Bangles versons was one of those covers that add to the original.

If you like Susanna Hoffs check out "Sid and Susie" her current collaberation with Mathew Sweet. I love their version of "Different Drum"
