Sample Library File Path???
Evening all, (well it is in the UK). Just finished installing X1 Producer. Not had much of a play yet but all loads and the Cori demo plays etc. Now then. I installed all the Dimension Pro library and Additional content to its default location. C:\Program Fules\Cakewalk\Diemsion Pro\ However, in my new PC I have two drives C and E. I read using one for OS / Programs and one for audio can aid performance. So do I put all my libraries on the E drive or just my projects and other audio like loops etc. Library wise I have all of the X1 producer stuff (obviously) plus, Superior Drummer New York @ 20GB and Avatar @ 20GB, Sample Tank 2.5 and expansion packs at 15GB. So far I've only used 43GB of my 640GB C:\ drive. Thanks Dean

For ease sake, I put all my samples in d:/samples. With Komplete, SD2, BFD2 and all the other crap I've get, it's a few 100 GB. I then back this up to a portable drive so if anything happens, I can easily put it back. My projects are on my C: with my OS. Not sure if this is the "proper" thing to do, but considering I'm using samples from D, I figured loading project audio from a different drive would be best.

the best scenario is one drive for os, one drive for samples, and one drive for audio recording. I keep my project files on my audio drive but not to sure if that's the best place....

As far as Dimension Pro it doesn't matter where the samples are stored in terms of performance because it doesn't stream them from disk--the samples of a particular are loaded into memory completely when the patch is selected. Placing samples on a separate disk for Dimension Pro is a personal preference for organizing content.

Sorry for delay in response. It's been a manic weekend. A bit of a mix I guess. Guitars and Vocals as audio and Synths for Drums, Keys, Strings and Pads. I use Amplitube 3 for guitars and bass, Superior Drummer 2 drums, SampleTank, Dimension Pro and True Pianos for Strings, Pads, Keys. So some heavy CPU stuff. Thanks Dean

If possible Dean, I'd go with the 3 disk approach 1 - OS & Progs 2 - Samples 3 - Cakewalk Projects (including all audio)

@ Bristol Jonesey I was planning on going that route, I mean I have space in the chasis and there's a spare 6GB/sec Sata connection but I thought this might be overkill considering I've still got over 500GB on each drive still. As an alternative I thought about recording to C:\Cakewalk Projects as per my old set up and as it fills move old projects to my external drive and re-import them to C:\ should I need to work on them. I'm also keen to move to / try SSD's but not until the price comes down a little more and not so soon after all the effort I put into setting this PC up. It took days. Thanks Dean (from his work desk just down the road @ Hinkley Point)

It's not about capacity. It's all about avoiding bottlenecks when you ask your machine to do more than one thing at a time. SSD's might be good investment in the future, but the current price/size ratio precludes their use for most of us as audio/sample drives, though several users have had great success using them for their OS & Progs drive. Hinkley eh? From where I'm sat I can just about see both Severn Bridges & Concorde - so you can probably guess exactly where I work.
