In the "Loops" /Sample Magic/Around The World In 80 Raves folder there were 33 .rx2 files. In the "One Shot" /Sample Magic/Around The World In 80 Raves folder there were only four .wav files. This was confusing if the browser was not in the right folder.
Since nobody´s answered you yet, here goes.
Samples can come in many different forms. What you are looking at are two of them. The .rx2 files are REX files. REX files are a special format developed to allow for easier manipulation of the samples, say like if you want to slow them down or speed them up. You will usually see loops (ie, a sound file that is repeated over an over) done in this way. It´s best used for drum loops so that they can be sped up or slowed down without affecting the pitch.
One shots, however, are played at one shot, usually on the beats of a measure. You can of course manipulate a WAV file as well, but it´s quality may be affected depending on how much it is changed and the software that is used to do it. You can place the WAV on the beats directly in a DAW, but they are best often used by a software sampler or drum sampler. Usually, one shots are used to make your own drum or percussion patterns, but not limited to that.
Sonar can handle both file types.
Also as I import one of these "Sample Magic" .rx2 files on two a track is there a way of changing pitch or anything else to follow a chord progression. Or using them other then way. Just didn't find much on You Tube or any where else.
Thanks for any help, Will
I think if you can convert the RX2 to Groove clips, you can then change the pitch. If the RXP player is available (can´t recall if that´s the case with X3) that will also allow you to change the pitch.
In any case, to know more about these types of files, search the Web for REX files and the SONAR docs and online videos for RXP.
Hope this helps!
