Sample rate cause interference noise?? - Steinberg UR44 interface
Using a Steinberg UR44 interface, my Yamaha active HS80m speakers will emit a mulit, high frequency sound...kind of like an interference. At first I thought it was my cabling, speakers to close to computer monitors...etc. But it isn't as I've ruled that out one by one. FINALLY I noticed that when I increase in my ASIO settings on my soundcard from 64 samples up to 256, the sound finally goes away. As I increase the buffer size, the sound diminishes and slightly "thins out"...until it is finally gone at 256. THIS ONLY happens with the Sonar track view on my monitors as well. Anything else on that monitor is fine. It's just odd. Also, the sound does not come thru my headphones, plugged into the sound card... odd too, eh? As I can live with a higher latency in almost all cases, the 256 buffer size seems to be the solution. Does any of this make sense...or similar experiences??

no one has ever heard any stray noises in their interface, due to changing latency settings?...not talking about crackling and popping..but like a RFI noise or similar at the lowest settings.

Bump. Seems like you have a very rare issue. :o/ I can't recall ever hearing of such. Curious am I.

I JUST now figured this out. In my audio preferences...when I check "USE multi processing engine"... the noise persists. ONLY when the track view window is on top. I open a GUI of anything, help file...etc. It goes away. But now finally, Unchecking this box...and it's SOLVED. The Sonar help files don't say much about it at all... so I'm leaving it unchecked. (In fact the help files are totally vague on this issue ...like saying unchecked...Sonar "sometimes" uses the multi processor.. dang!)

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be bad cables running to my speakers. I replaced them with good quality balanced plugs and also replaced the USB cable with a ferat one. https://www.amazon.com/Device-Cable-Dual-Ferrite-Chokes/dp/B004ZXN7B2 Before I fixed it, I could hear a very high pitched noise coming through my speakers. Now I am perfectly silent.

thx rimshot...I've been down that road with several good cables, etc. It's odd that it is only the track view window that does this.

interference noise can have many reasons. one highly overlooked one is "dirty" power supply. back in the days when my equipment was bedroom style piled in a corner of a room I had similar isues that were driving me nuts. I just could not get rid of, no matter what I tried, no matter what I bought ... when I later build the studio I took great care to have separate power lines for audio equipment, power conditioning, proper grounding, etc. and the same equipment (though retired now) was dead silent from then onwards ...

thx. Sonar is the ONLY program I get this noise with...and like I said, ONLY the track view window. I have my studio on its' own circuit as well and do run thru power conditioning. This only happened once I started using SPlat from the X series of Producer as well.

ok. that's excellent and rules out a lot of potential causes. mixmkr I JUST now figured this out. In my audio preferences...when I check "USE multi processing engine"... the noise persists. does this mean you get the issue whenever Sonar got the focus or when track view is active (i.e. what about console view maximized?) does the setting for sharing the autio driver with other apps make any difference?

if the track view is on top, the sound persists. Open ANY window on top of it, it doesn't matter...sound gone. Sharing audio drivers has no effect one way or the other.
