The package is dated but still useful. For fifty bucks it's definitely a worthwhile purchase.

I got the Sonik Synth2 last week for the same price as that comes with quite a few modern & vintage synths (also with 8GB of sounds).

I have the free ST2.5XL and was wondering if the 2.1L is actually worth getting. If I'm not mistaken, I thought both (Free & the ST2.1L) have the same functional capabilities and it was just the library content that was different? (my free one came with some 1.5GB & the 2.1L has 6.5GB).

Since maybe only half the sounds are really useful, the larger library means you'll get more use out of it.

Still, it's the effects that are the standout selling points for this package. Light on CPU, simple to use, and can be per-voice or global. The bread-and-butter effects such as reverb, chorus and distortion sound pretty good even if they're a little less versatile than dedicated plugins.

Yes, very good point. The Fx are quite good and it's light on the CPU.

On a group buy they had last year, I ended up with a 14+GB library and it takes some time to find the right instrument. I suppose I'll have to start a new folder with my favorite go to instruments.

I got in on last year's group buy and got the whole kit 'n kaboodle: SampleTank, SampleTron, SampleMoog, Sonic Synth, and Miroslav. I figured if the price is low enough it's still a good buy even if I don't find many uses for it. Turns out, I actually use it quite a lot, so it was a very good buy indeed.

I've jumped onboard on several IK group buys and ended up with 10 T-Racks effects, 4 reverbs, 5 AmpliTubes, 4 softsynths and tons of eSoundz expansion packs.  The only thing I'm missing is SampleMoog.

These are all useful items that I would hate to be without.  They are not necessarily my primary "goto" effects and synths, but they do get used a lot in most of my projects.

I just installed Sonik Synth2 with it's 8GB library and I was very impressed with the quality of sounds....very useable and even inspiring IMHO. I installed the sound library in the same folder as my SampleTank library, but couldn't open the ST sounds and got this message: These are not Sonik Synth sounds (not at my DAW now, but to this effect).

I was under the impression that I could use any of the ST or Sonik sounds on either Synth as they both use the same engine? No?

My impression is/was that the Sampletank 2.x update allowed it (ST) to play all the Total Workstation libraries - but not in the other direction.  But, I could be wrong.

Yeah they didn't have many of them to sell so they went fast. And yes SampleTank will be able to load up the other libraries just direct your preferences to the library you want to load. If you want them all to show up put all the libraries in the same folder.

Quick tip: Throw the "Tone Control" FX on any sound and watch it get bigger and thicker instantly...I fell in love all over again when I discovered that!
