I think most of Groove3 videos have pretty good info and most are entertaining but I rarely like the value for an individual topic. I like Groove3' all access pass I do the 30 days every once in a while that way I can revue that things I forgot about other things that I own and can listen to the videos for things that I might buy. I like Eli, some of the other guys present good info but their vocals are irritating. Any way that is my opinion.

Probably my best investment in this business is the annual Groove3 pass that usually goes on sale a couple times per year. I can watch or review anything any time.

Purrrfect Audio DAW here.  Wow!...

The annual pass is well worth it. i agree that Eli is very easy to listen to and I have learned a couple of things not in the IK videos so far.

My BEST instructive purchase has been the .99 AskVideo trial membership...

I've completely 15 courses, over 300 video's, and still have 10 days to go...

LOL I'm struggling through a Groove3 course at the minute with an instructor who has a very distracting lilt and rhythm to his voice which I'm sorry to say gets on my nerves a bit...no names though! I agree Eli is the best, he has a very clear and soothing voice which is ideal for video instruction.

Sharke, I'm pretty sure I know who you mean.

I do occasionally watch for sales. I've picked up the following:
  • Mastering in the Box (Good to refer to once and a while)
  • Mastering with Waves (some good info on using their plugs)
  • Melodyne (worth the purchase price for sure!)
  • Ozone 5 (wish this was more focused like the Mastering items, good to refer to once in awhile)
  • Slate VTM (it was cheap)
  • T-RackS
  • Waves SSL (some good tricks in this)
Otherwise I will pick up the pass occasionally...

1. I've succumbed and ordered SampleTank. Seems there's general and broad acknowledgement it's a good one to have.

2. What put me over the fence was the release of the Groove3 tutorial on it by Eli. These tutorials always accelerate my uptake of the features and capabilities.

3. Eli is great, I have been through more than a dozen of his tutorials. Always helpful. So far the SampleTank tutorial is concise, fast-moving, clear and excellent.

4. I agree there are at least one weak tutorial makers at Groove3. I watched the one focused on Compression and each segment was frustrating and scrambled my head about compression. It's awful to say the least. But other than that one in particular I've always had a great experience learning from Groove3 tutorials. (My suggestion is to avoid their current offering on Compression).

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Re: SampleTank 3 Explained 2014/08/17 12:35:38 (permalink)
I had high hopes for ST 3...in spite of my dislike of IK's handling of the product line and
business practices...( and I know most don't believe that...believe what you want)

It was a severe disappointment...it's a Rompler priced like a Sampler...it offers nothing more
then a new interface, 64 bit, and T-Racks effects.  33 Gb of samples...12 Gb of which are from ST 2.5....
the new ones are "ok"...but nothing to write home about or jump up and down about.
NO SCRIPTING...and the vocal samples are HORRENDOUS...let me repeat...HORRENDOUS,
as are some of the others...

If you just want to "Play" and "tweak" samples...it might be what you're looking for...but to be in the price
range that it is....Kontakt Player is a far better alternative...and $350 cheaper retail...being FREE,
and, for $50 more retail, you can get Kontakt...which is 100 times the product that has been released
as SampleTank 3.

I really don't think that having the "effects" built into the product is an incentive.  More of a detriment
to IK...but that's just me.  The new interface IS an improvement.  64 bit was long overdue.
BUT, for the asking price...it's a failure IMO...

Ok...you can throw rocks now...

Let me also say...if you want to get a good deal on it,
there are many on KVR selling it...just watch the forum.
All I can say is, I can think of far better uses for the money,
and, if you really must have it, I recommend waiting for sale.

Cheers!

Seriously...you made a thread about a help video for a product just to give the same bat $h!+ crazy rant for the thousandth time? I highly doubt a hate filled guy spending a little time in guitar center dinking around with a product is capable of giving a better description than actual owners. I have had this three weeks and still discovering things. Comparing to kontakt player is absurd.

It is 6.72GB out of the 33.8GB total in ST3 that comes from ST 2.5XL and 2.5GB combined for the Miroslav Philharmonik reprogrammed sounds by the way, so just a hair under 24.6GB is completely new content.

The sounds are definitely great for some and and here's a nice example of what can be done with it by someone who found SampleTank 3 a great asset creatively (link below).  We'll probably hear "the electric violin sounds fake!" (but note before saying that - it is the only real instrument in the piece, otherwise 100% SampleTank 3 with T-RackS and AmpliTube ;) )

Thanks IK Multimedia for this info on the ST3 library content.  This is helpful.

Thanks also to others for this thread.  I find Groove3 helpful.  Just use it now and then, but it is usually helpful.  And yes, there are a few presenters who have voices that are not up to the task, but they are definitely in the minority.

I like ST3. Even though I have Komplete 9, ST3 allows for fast workflow like never before. The build it effects are breathing new life to the old samplemoog samples. It is a joy to use.
