Samson G Track Driver Issues

To my enjoyment, I have recently attained a Samson G-Track USB Mic. When I got it I excitedly tore open the box, plugged it in and...... NOTHING. The LED flashed for like a millisecond and went out. The windows notification looked fine but when I look at it in the devices menu, its listed as "USB Auido CODEC." IT has a little red X next to it. I troubleshot it and it wanted to reinstall the driver, so I did. NOTHING. I've spent hours surfing the web for help. The best I've gotten is a USB audio driver update thing on cnet, but it won't work because I'm running 64- bit Windows 7.

I assume there was no driver disk included in the box?  it looks like from the website that the G-track doesn't come with its own drivers.

I am not a fan of USB mics.  they are not appropriate for recording music in a DAW IMO.  they can cause a lot of different problems.

try changing to MME driver mode in sonar.  you didn't say which verion of sonar you're using so I don't know EXACTLY where to tell you to change the driver mode since it's different for different versions.  for X1, type "P" on the keyboard, go to AUDIO>PLAYBACK AND RECORDING and change the driver mode to MME, click APPLY and let it run the audio tests.

if Sonar 8.5 and below, it's in the OPTIONS>AUDIO or OPTIONS>AUDIO>ADVANCED (again, depending on the version.

my best advice, however, is to take it back and get a USB soundcard from my recommended list (on my website) and a real traditional condenser mic instead.

Maybe this thread offers some advice.

The USB mics are known troubleraisers. The problem is they act as soundcards, but they lack the functions that would make it possible to use them as the ONLY soundcard. And two soundcards usually makes things difficult.

You're not giving any hints about your track inputs/outputs and other settings, nor what software you're using. In DAW work, there's (practically) no plug'n'play-solutions, unfortunately.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

The issue with it is that Sonar can't even see the mic. The issue in the driver keeps it from being visible I suppose. I have Sonar 8.5 LE and it defaulted to MME for the driver mode. This is really beginning to frustrate me.
