Sandy Bridge E numbers finally UPDATED

finally got some numbers. as i had posted in a different thread the beta boards we had were not agreeing with audio. (horrid DPC issues even with retail bios') and anything below 256 buffer flipped out.
so i had to wait for retail boards to show up.
i had posted that for video they were only seeing a 11% increase (over sandy)
for audio its vastly different.

RME Multiface
Dawbench DSP test using RXC compressor in cubase 6

16 gig 1600 ram (4x4)
128 319
64  298
32 253

@32 buffer that’s a 40% increase over the 2600(stock) and 25% over the 980
now to get numbers OCed.

UPDATED: @4.5GHz holy crap....

256 411

Sure but it's a chip that has a 33% physical increase in cores over a stock 2600, if anything it shows how efficient Sandy Bridge chips are ATM.

Top end users and extra millisecond hunters are going to love them for sure though, and it also seems there's going to be a lot of very capable budget systems around for a good while.

AMD must be hurting really bad just now.

Now all we need is a few money men to invent a shortage of other components, say hard-drives, to stabilize the prices of Desktop computers...

Oh dear, I spoke too soon...

i agree with you.. i will still be selling a lot of sandy vs E
the 2600 is already more than many need...
FYI the 3930 overclocks the same as the 3960..
what i want to see is how well the sandy e quad does OCed ($300)

This is great news Scott  Thanks for the update, cant wait to see the OC benchmarks.  I'm glad holding off on buyiing a 980x system would eventually pay off

We just built a SandyBridge-E machine for a composer client
At stock speed, the 3930k based machine breezed thru disk-streaming 1500 stereo voices from Hollywood Strings and LASS.  This machine has 8 SSDs... so it's capable of crazy disk-streaming polyphony.

DPC Latency isn't a problem with release boards.

8 SSD's?  Dang I used up all my slots,, 4 internal HD's and 1 external.  When I used one of those expansion card things tp plug in more hard drives I had 2 blue screen crashes so I took it out.

But ya thats besides the point.  I'm glad these chips and boards appear to be working great

So, for guys like me, it will probably mean that the 2600k's will be dropping in price soon, true?

(We've had a few months of delays in getting our money which is why you haven't heard from me lately Scott - it's such a treat to be going into Christmas time broke...  The problems had nothing to do with my company, but it seems like we're always the ones getting the raw end of the stick!  Bah...)

I wouldn't expect a price drop real soon...
The 2600k is already pretty reasonably priced... (the E series significantly higher)

Ive been watching the pricing as well. Intel doesn't generally seem to back down on price until the chip your looking at is several generations old.

I'm hearing that the new E series chip/MOBO combinations are including a water cooled heat sink. Is this correct? It looks like  some the high end E series have an 8 core die with two cores disabled making it a six core? Why would they do that?
