The Gayageum is a traditional stringed instrument from Korea. It is a close relative to the Japanese Koto and the Chinese Guzheng. Like these instruments, it is a zither with movable bridges and is played by plucking and flicking the strings with the right hand and bending them with the left hand.
The Sanjo Gayageum design evolved in the 19th century with the emergence of Sanjo music in order to accommodate faster playing styles. It has 12 strings (traditionally made from silk, but more recently made from nylon) that are tuned to a pentatonic scale. The strings are played using an alternating pluck, flick, flick style and a heavy vibrato that give the Gayageum Sanjo its unique musical flavour.
The Sanjo Gayageum was meticulously sampled by Icebreaker Audio with over 1500 samples recorded at 24bit/48kHz quality, a minimum of 3 round robins per note and between 6 and 14 velocity layers per note. The simple and beautiful interface is easy to use allows you to mix between 2 microphone sources, meaning you'll always get that perfect sound for your track.

Akebono (literal translation: Dawn) comes from Japan and was probably released sometime in the mid-1980s. Detailed information is scarce as it was never intended for use by western musicians. It is a "suitase" instrument which re-creates a number of traditional Japanese instrument sounds using a combination of samples and digital synthesis.
Designed primarily as a Koto practice instrument, Akebono uses buttons instead of piano keys, has a joystick for pitch and volume modulation, and a speaker built into the suitcase.
The Akebono has a collection of 15 traditional instruments to choose from in a wide range of categories. Every instrument was sampled at 24bit / 48kHz with the original performance features emulated with custom scripts in Kontakt.
