Save CWP file - General error - won't save
Sometimes when I try to save a CWP file, I get the error message "General Error". After much trial and error, I found that if I delete some folders with a lot of tracks, I can then save. And then I can hit undo and all the tracks are undeleted, I hit save and it works. Then later on the same error comes up and I can't save, I do the same fix above and I can save. Sometimes all I did was look at tracks and parameters and not start the transport and then all of a sudden it would save ok. It's like Sonar is momentarily confused and then it can save again. Then I found a very easy fix that works every time. I just hit spacebar once to start playback and then quickly hit it again to stop, so far that easy method has worked every time. After multiple errors like this, I rebooted the computer and couldn't get it to misbehave with this particaulr file. So clearly it's a complter glitch that after I'm able to save I need to always reboot, just in case it gets where it won't save. THis is a brand new Win 8.1 Pro computer from Studiocat, you might know the very first song I started to work on 6/12 this error happened while working on an old file. I had this problem that day for a while and then didn't have the problem for almost a month and all of a sudden it came back working on a new song file I started about 2 months ago. Then it happened again multiple times on saturday again working on the old file that did this on 6/12. I never had this happen with Win 7. Many years ago it seems I saw this crop up before. So I don't know if this is a quirky thing with Win 8 or Platinum or what. I'm still using last months update for Platinum, because I wanted to see if anything else goes wrong before updating. Does anyone know why this occasionally happens or has had experience with this?

Right click on your Sonar icon, click on properties, change to the Compatibility tab and select "Run this program as administrator". Click OK and see if that happens again.

Two things to try... 1) starting/stopping the transport sometimes works 2) I only got this once with a huge project and upped my file read and write buffers to 512. I never had that issue since. I am not at my computer, but that is in preferences and may require advanced mode at the bottom to see (do not confuse with audio buffers... This is file system I/O buffers).

So far I just click on the Platinum x86 desktop icon. I haven't tried right clicking the icon and selecting "run as administrator". I see I can also right click the icon and choose "run this program as the administrator, so I can just double click the icon. Is this recommended to do this? Under User Account I'm the only user listed and under my name is local account - administrator. When I first got the computer UAC was disabled with the slider at the bottom in the off position. The other day I tried to open a PDF file and got this weird message that said I couldn't open the PDF file unless I enabled UAC. So I enabled it using the lowest slider position and found I could open the PDF file. This seemed pretty bizarre to me and this happened about a week ago. I wonder if UAC could cause this general error problem with saving a file?

I think you're referring to this: Playback I/O buffer size and Record I/O buffer size are currently set to 256. I'll definitely try the 512 as another option in case start and stop doesn't work. I'd hate to do a lot of work and then run into this and not be able to save at all - nightmare scenario! thanks,

I've had that happen a few times and hitting play got rid of it and let me save. But I don't remember it happening since Platinum.

Purely on the basis of this update your audio interface drivers and firmware. And run windows update for good measure.

It's good to hear that play worked for you also. Actually the very first time this happened a month ago. I finally got it to save, and then I closed Sonar and rebooted, only to find that Sonar deleted my last saved file. So far that's the only time it deleted the file, but that was bad, since I lost 20 min of work.

Hi. Have you tried save copy as? I had a stubborn old project a few weeks ago that I could not save properly. I did a "save copy as", and after re opening that (saved copy), it allowed me to save as usual. I do not know why, but it helped me. Best of luck.

thanks for the tip. Sounds like a very good one. I haven't tried "save copy as". in fact I'm not even sure what the purpose of that is, except to maybe fix a corrupt project

"Save Copy As" allows one to save a copy of the current project and continue working with the current project. This differs from "Save As" in that "Save As" immediately changes the currently open project to the "Save As" project.

This has been happening to me a lot lately, across multiple projects in Splat. The play/stop trick does work, but it's very disconcerting.

Increase the File System I/O to at least 512KB (Preferences->(Advanced Mode at the bottom)->Audio->Sync and Caching), and the problem will go away. Mettelus suggested this when I had the exact same problem several months ago and it permanently solved it for me.

Interesting fix. It's still a bug no doubt. I have a very fast new computer and there's no reason why I should have to raise those buffers. I don't like the latency I get from doing that. This never happened with my old computer and Win 7 and Plat. It used to happen a lot more when I first got the new computer in June, likely due to other weird things that were going on. Now it's extremely rare that it happens. And with the new template I built from scratch and my switch to 64 bit Plat I may not get it anymore on new projects. The last one I got it on was a very bloated 32 bit project and it happened several times with that one. It makes sense to raise those buffers on a bloated project. The workaround I prefer is to hit the spacebar 2x (start and stop) then when I hit save it's fine.
