Scala files - explanations

Hi:
 
I would like to use alternate tunings in a composition that I am working on. To this end, I have been experimenting with various scala files. However, I am wondering if anyone knows whether there exists some sort of directory or guide that gives a brief explanation of all the various scala files. This would allow me to more efficiently identify those scala files that might be of interest. Any information would be appreciated. I've looked around a bit on the internet, but haven't found much.
