Scam warning: "Broadcast Music, Inc."

I received an email from "Broadcast Music, Inc." that was purportedly an order confirmation. Since I order used books and CDs via Amazon on a regular basis, I do get such emails from a variety of vendors.

The clue that this one was a Trojan was that no order details were included in the email. Instead, there was an attached zip file that they claimed contained the order information. Very clever.

The email header revealed the sender to be one "g1fglucky@ms66.hinet.net", and the mail was delivered via a server in Russia. I'm pretty sure I haven't ordered anything from Russia lately.

Here's the text of the email:
Thank you for ordering from Broadcast Music, Inc.
This message is to inform you that your order has been received and is currently being processed.
Your order reference is 793653. You will need this in all correspondence. This receipt is NOT proof of purchase. We will send a printed invoice by mail to your billing address.
You have chosen to pay by credit card. Your card will be charged for the amount of 152.00 USD and "Broadcast Music, Inc." will appear next to the charge on your statement. l
Your purchase information appears below in the file.
Broadcast Music, Inc.

Inside the attached zip file is an executable, "Order details.exe". Up till this point, it's been a pretty clever ruse. But really, anyone who runs an exe they got in an email from an unknown sender kind of deserves what they get.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Dave, since I am in business and tend to order lots of security equipment, which comes in the UPS truck and on occasion something comes FedEx..... I have seen some of these scams as well.

It usually says something like.... We tried to deliver a package to you but the address was wrong, missing, incomplete, etc..... please click the zipped file to see the details of this delivery transaction........

No thank you.... I'm a small enough company to know what I have ordered and I have not fallen for the scams, or the virus infested zips.....

Thanks for pointing this out because there are some folks that would be curious and click the link, and render harm to themselves in the process.

Yep I got the same email as bitflipper yesterday from an andrew01@ms21.hinet.net

I too called a halt when I saw the executable file. This appears to be a legit company having it's name misused. BMI have a website and have issued a warning here http://www.bmi.com/about/entry/533331/
