Does Sonar LE (6) have a notation/score system?

Just for midi or I could also make a score of my recorded insruments?

Thanks.

No. LE doesn't include notation.
You can easily check the contents of different versions checking the feature lists.
AFAIK there are no existing apps for audio notation.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Surprisingly, I did not see notation mentioned in any feature lists I found, but at least Producer does include it. It's not good enough for an experienced user, though.

If your notation needs are simple then some versions of SONAR do have some limited notation capability for MIDI.  But if you have modest notation needs then take a look at a notation product line from one of the fine notation companies.  Notation and MIDI/Audio recording are very different complex tasks and thus far most DAW's do not excel at notation and most notation software are not great DAWs.  I think most people that need both use two different applications and import/export data between them.

As long as I can input the notes and tempos on them, it will be helpfull, expressions and the such would be nice too, but FOR NOW I have more modest requirements.

Thanks.

It seems Music Creator has notation, too. That's quite a bit cheaper than Producer!

I'm about to get Sonar LE with a product Iam buying, and on rolan site looking at the sonar LE information it reads;

"Edit and print your music and with Staff notation that includes lyrics and chord changes"

Is this just lyrics and chords then? This thread suggests it doesnt even exist? (Well confused)

Has anyone tried printing notation from Sonar LE 8.5, as I am unable to? There appears to be no "print" option...

Cheers,
Gary.

Current configuration:
Core i3 Laptop / 8GB RAM; Sonar Platinum (replaced with REAPER); Roland Quad Capture interface; Alesis Micron; Roland XP30; Akai Mini MPK; Akai S2000

First line of icons, icon number 9 might be helpful.

In this point the help file lies, there are no printing entries in the file menu. Is it possible that the help file is the same for all Versions (LE, Home Studio, etc.)?

Hi Lothan,

How is it your screenshot shows guitar icon chords?

Is that possible in all Sonar LE's?

Thanks!

It certainly is!! Just click on the Chords button in the Staff View window and then right-click above the score where you want your chord to appear.

Cheers,
Gary.

I found the Print menu!! If you open the file menu and hover over the "bar" underneath the "Exit" option, all the options are there, sneakily hidden away!

I hope this of help to others...

Gary.

Re:Score/Notation in Sonar LE March 22, 10 9:19 AM (permalink)
Hi Gary,

And thanks for the reply.

In a selected MIDI track:

I do get the Staff view. I get the notes showing, just like Lothan's image above.

Then I click the chord button [C] which identifies itself as such. Then it shows it's selecte with a blue tint. The button is the one in between [L] [C] [f] the Lyrics and Expression button.

Then I right-click as you say, and I get a floating menu that has a few options like "MIDI effects", and "Layout".

Maybe I am not right-clicking in the right place.

My Sonar LE, though is version 4.0.1 and maybe it does not have that feature?

Also, does one have to click at the various places for the guitar chord icon to show?

(In Band in a Box, it's just one single option and all chords show an icon on top, just as Lothan's image shows).

Am puzzled.

Hi NoKey,

Here's how you do it - no right-clicking involved

To Add a Chord Symbol:
  1. Click the Draw tool.
  2. Select the Chord tool.
  3. Position the pointer above the staff (the pointer should change to a pencil when you are in a "legal" position).
  4. Click to place a chord symbol. SONAR inserts a copy of the most recently added chord (by default, C). You can then edit the symbol to display the chord you want.
To Move a Chord Symbol:
  1. Click the Draw tool.
  2.  Drag the chord symbol to a new location.

Re:Score/Notation in Sonar LE March 27, 10 11:36 PM (permalink)
Hi Gary,

And thanks for the detail explanation.

I tried, and tried quite a few times but did not manage to accomplish as described.

It could be my SonarLE version, perhaps. It's versio 4.0.1

In addition, I gather that this is probably not the function that I was after, from the explanation..I was hoping that Sonar had an option so that instantly, all of the guitar chords would show above the notes, as is the case with some written sheet music. If that's possible in some other way, I'd like to know that.

If that is so, then I will revisit and try some more, or upgrade.

So I am putting this off the table for the time being.

Thanks again!
