Screen Sets - Can they do this?

Can screen sets get the Track View to show different content?  For example, could I have these screen sets:

1) all tracks
2) drums only
3) other instruments (no drums)
4) vocals only
So, if I want to focus on drums, I'd load the second screen set, and the other tracks would be hidden?

And then, not only that, can screen sets remember whether we're viewing clips vs envelopes?  For example, could I setup screen sets like this:

1) all tracks - show clips
2) all tracks - show volume envelopes
3) drums only - show clips
4) drums only - show volume envelopes
5) other instruments - show clips
6) other instruments - show volume envelopes
7) vocals only - show clips
8) vocals only - show volume envelopes?

Or do screen sets not remember things like that?

I'm pretty sure you can do all that. Just hit a number and adjust the screen to taste. Hit the next number do the same...etc. The screen sets will be saved when you save the project.

I don't know have you tried it? FBB might have some answers for you.

Yes they can do all of that. Edit filter state is remembered as are visible and hidden tracks. In fact just about everything is remembered with the exception of the control bar state.

Set up your first screenset how you want it then copy it to another screenset (Ctrl+screenset number) adjust that to how you want it, repeat that process until you've finished or run out of screensets.

If you want different snap to per screenset though you need to add IncludeSnapInScreenset=1 to you ini file. I use that option a lot.

Save the whole lot as a template or copy to existing projects by opening the target project and select "Import screensets from...." in the screenset menu.

I've been able to user the ctrl-# to clone a screen set, and then hide tracks, show volume envelopes, etc.

However, if I then add a new track to the main screen set, or zoom into a specific part of the song, then the other screen sets don't automatically update the view mode (clip vs envelope) for the new track or zoom into the same section.  So, I need to either manually update the new track or zoom for the other screen sets, or re-clone the original screen set and then manually add the unique features of the other screen sets.  Either way, manual updating is required whenever I added tracks or zoom.

What I'm wondering is if there is an easy way to get screen sets to automatically "follow" what I'm doing in the main screen set.  So, can I get them to use the same horizontal zoom (and perhaps even vertical zoom)?  Can I get a screen set to *always* show volume envelopes for tracks, even tracks I added after the screen set was created?

For example, let's say I add a new piano track, and am zoomed into 16 bars of just that piano track.  And now I want to quickly toggle back and forth between manipulating clips vs volume envelopes...  Can screen sets let me do that easily, or will they always require manual fiddling?

My goal is to make the toggling between clip vs volume envelope editing as fast as possible, ideally with a single key press.  I'm starting to get a sense that screen sets aren't the answer, unless there are ways to selectively tell a screen set which properties should be screen set specific and which should be global (like snap settings).

No they'll always need manual updating. Each screenset is unique from the other, zooms are part of that.

That's a good thing for me and the way I use them. Obviously not so for what you are trying to achieve.

I like the auto update idea though but I'm guessing that to implement that would be a pretty big task given that there are literally thousands of possibilities for uses and scenarios.

My goal is to make the toggling between clip vs volume envelope editing as fast as possible, ideally with a single key press.

The way I use screensets to do this is demo'd in this video. While not quite a single keypress it is just one for screenset and then click on the track number I want to work on. That may or may not help but I find it very quick. You'd still need to maximise any newly added tracks. I use the "Ctrl+A" to select and quick grouping "Ctrl + whatever you select ie. edit filter" to move from one editing "mode" to another.

Combine all of that with the shift + click (changes edit filter focus), and shift + right click (toggles last two edit filter states) and it becomes pretty adaptable for most of the editing I do. If we ever get a popup over ghosted data it'll be pretty much perfect for my use. YMMV of course.
