Screenset?
Just watched Brandon's new videos showcasing X1. One thing that stuck out for me was the use of Screen sets. I am wondering if you can have customized Control Bars for various Screen Sets? That is, will I be able to create a Screen Set for editing tracks with particular tools available in the bar and for a tracking Screen Set have different tools which I use while tracking, etc.? That would be cool instead of having a global tool bar or Control bar for all Screen Sets. Thanks in advance. Kind regards, Living Room Rocker P.S. Brandon, are we ever going to see videos of you in action (performing) while using SONAR, harking back to the days of P5?

The control bar is global and not saved with Screensets. You can customize the Control bar and choose which modules are displayed and arrange their order. In addition you can dock, float and remove/display the entire control bar. Robin

Hmmm - I dont see a need to change control bar setup as it should be always familiar for fast work, but flexibility is always good!

The WHOLE idea behind screensets it to set it up to work on specific tasks with ONLY the tools, buttons, options you need for doing those specific tasks. Besides, it seems logical to make it that way since everything else seems very customizable.

I have been extremely curious about this feature, and it may end up being the most important one for me. But I'm going to have to wait and use it before I ask any questions. My hopes are that high.

It sounds like a much more elegant variant on an already existing feature, although incroporating all the new X1 elements. I heart it. I miss much those days with SAW+, where SHIFT-Fx would save a view and Fx would recall it. SAW had a very window intensive workflow so it was totally rad to be able to flip around like that.

I spent praticaly the whole week end trying Sonarr X1 at the french equivalent of the namm show !! All i can say is that the more i used it the more it was difficult to go back on 8.5 !!! Never thought i would say that !!! The screenset is so cool and easy !!! Press a button (3 for exemple) arrange screen view , size , zoom ect ....then go bakc on the screen you were working (let's say 1) then when you click 3 you go back on the screen layout you made , no save process or some , just like that !!

I´m excited to see that there´s screensets in X1. That´s definitely going to speed up the workflow and make it more convenient. I´m happy that it´s now implemented, because I´m used to that feature in Photoshop. I think I saw timeline zoom feature in videos (edit: I mean more elegant type of zoom) , I hope the basic editing is better and as easy as with Sony Vegas.

Most of the Control Bar functions are accessible via keyboard shortcuts so while I can definitely see the point of wanting the Screensets to save the Control Bar status, it's not absolutely necessary. There are a few Control Bar modules that most people won't use so they'll more than likely just set it up with a specific set of modules and just keep it that way. For example, there is a Screensets module, but you don't really need it since Screensets are more easily accessible via the PC keyboard. Scott -- Scott R. Is the screenset a global feature or does it need to be set for each indivdiual project?

Scott, you'll probably know the answer to this - how does the new & improved functionality interfere with custom kbd shortcuts? Will all of my custom shortcuts still work or has the slate been wiped clean for the new workflow enhancements.

Screensets are per-project now, but you can import them from other projects if you want to use the same ones for every project. Scott -- Scott R. That would mitigate things a bit at least.

Win a free i2i Stream Wireless Music Pack, go to: http://www.newtechreview.com/newtechreview/ Scott, thanks for the reply. I obviously didn't explain myself very well. I get the impression that with the new workflow enhancements, a lot of new keyboard shortcut bindings will have been set up, as a default set if you like. My question is - if X1 utilises a setting I've already made, say Ctrl + G for example - what will happen in X1 if/when I attempt to import my own shortcuts from 8.5? OR should I simply wait to see what's available in X1, and then set up whatever keybindings I feel are needed (by me) ? It's not a biggie, just something I think we should all be aware of prior to installation.
