For solo work it is a revelation.  "The Duke" amp (read Dumble) is just amazing.  This really is a no-brainer folks.

This is a tough one. I have GR4 pro (and want GR 5), Amplitube 3 Free, AcmeBarGig and have played the demo of Scuffham. Scuffham and ABG are the only ones that I can get a good sound without using extra EQs in the path. ABG just has so many options with iFace. It will be a tough one deciding on the $79 update for GR5 or Scuffham at 15% off. Thanks for the heads up on the discount!

    Purchased and installed.

A question...not sure if I somehow messed something up, or if this is how it's set up...

But, in the presets area, it looks like there are duplicates and skipped numbers.

Does anyone else see that, or have I inadvertantly deleted/copied presets?

Nope...that's the way the latest version is.  It may be a bug in the latest version of the software.  I wouldn't worry about tho...there's still plenty of presets to get you going and you'll likely be tweaking anyway.  Hope you like it as much as I do.  That ol Duke is somethin else.

Thanks for chiming in, olpal.  I played with the demo a few months ago and was quite impressed with it.  Wanted to purchase it then, but cash got tight.

For the money, (especially with the discount) this one is hard to beat.

I don't usually worry too much about presets (in other programs, I'm not usually that happy with them), but I have to say, I actually like some of them in S-Gear! (And it's good to know that I didn't "screw it up")

I think I am going to get this before I get the GR5 Pro upgrade. I keep listening to the demos and they are soooo good. I think S-Gear compliments my real amp pretty well.

Well, you've used the demo version of the software and heard the soundclips.  I hate pushing anyone to a purchase, since I don't really know what your needs are.

However, as it's on sale, now would be a decent time to pull the trigger if you're seriously thinking about it.

I can honestly say that I don't regret making the purchase yesterday.  You won't get all the bells and whistles of a full version of GR...but, you could get that when it goes on sale later, if you've a mind to. (And do you really need all those bells and whistles?)

Is the $79 upgrade for GR only valid for a limited time? I thought it was regular upgrade pricing - in which case it'll still be good whenever you decide to go for it. You might want to check that out if it helps w/ your decision.

The $79 upgrade is only good till like November or so.  I upgraded already and did a/b versions with GR4, GR5, and Scuffham Amps.   GR5 won in every category.  GR4 sounded the same as Scuffham except for some of the Scuffham presets sounded better than GR4.  I would totally get the Scuffham if I hadn't just upgraded to GR5.  I was thinking before that update came out of buying this(Scuffham), especially for the Duke amp. But GR5 blows it away.

It didn't seem like they changed much going from GR4 to GR5 other than 2 new amps and some affects. Did they re-design the underlying audio engine? BTW you are not making this any easier lol Thanks

They must have changed the underlying audio engine.  It sounds like it sits in the room better.  I was wondering if it was enough but $79 I went for it and I am glad I did.  Even the same presets from GR4 sound better in GR5.  I went back and forth when I got them and I used to like GR4(now sounds not as full), now I like GR5.  Something about the room, maybe
The new control room pro has great impulse responses from Redwirez, which make it sound better IMO. They do the Axe-fx I and II!
Also if you play rock you will love the 2 new amps. And the cpu usage seems a tad smaller maybe 2-5%.

After I posted, I found this discussion on another forum.

I think I am going with S-Gear. It is a tough one as GR5 adds the ability to use IRs, which appears (from the post I linked to) to be the reason for the tonal improvement. I was already using KeFIR with GR4 so I had IRs for the cab sims.

I like S-Gear's ability to do low gain stuff so well.

At one point last year, NI brought the GR4 update down to $50. Maybe they will do that for GR5 next year?

Finally bought it. Glad I did - it's pretty good at subtle dynamics. I like the small footprint and not having to crap around to get a very good starting tone. It has plenty of drive, even when maxing it out to try and get a metal tone - it gives the impression that it's not quite enough when listening solo but works really well in a mix for me. The cab models are very useful.

Peavey Revalver is the best guitar amp simulator out there for me...

It's a dynamic package and the closest that I've ever heard to "the real thing"

I've tried most of them and I have quite a few hanging around, but that one's got my vote...

If you drop some choice impulses into the cab simulator,it really comes alive and the ability to plug VST's into the rack is a real bonus and the icing on a very tasty cake...

You can try out the demos here : [link=http://forums.peavey.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=22452]http://forums.peavey.com/...c.php?f=48&t=22452[/link]

    Take it for a spin

You just might be glad that you did....

    Sorry - I don't use Autotune :)
