Seeing Properties default metronome

More as an exercise than for any other reason, but with the default Metronome track you get with a normal project, I'm trying to see where the sound is coming from, I can't even tell whether its audio or midi.
How can I tell where the sound is generated from?
(I have found in Help how to create a metronome track, I'm just frustrated I can't understand what make the default one tick)

Don't know what product you are using....but in Sonar Home Studio the menu item
Options>Project Options...  brings up a box with a Metronome tab.  Take a look at that.

PS:  I'm not sure what you mean by a "metronome track"?  I've never seen such a track.

There's a metronome bus incorporated into the Normal template.

Perhaps this is what the OP meant

CbB, Platinum, 64 bit throughout
Custom built i7 3930, 32Gb RAM, 2 x 1Tb Internal HDD, 1 x 1TB system SSD (Win 7), 1 x 500Gb system SSD (Win 10), 2 x 1Tb External HDD's, Dual boot Win 7 & Win 10 64 Bit, Saffire Pro 26, ISA One, Adam P11A,

Oh, now that I've upgraded to X1 Studio I see the Metronome track.  Surprise!!

In X1, only if you have a project open, the menu item Edit>Preferences....  brings up the pref editing box which includes a Project section with an item for the metronome.

Also, the Transport Module (the area with the playback position) has metronome control and preference buttons on its right side (only if a project is open).
