Seeking Rough Rider Version 1 Compressor
Hi Guys, If anybody still has a copy of Rough Rider Version 1 compressor freeware 32 bit VST, please let me know. Or if you know of a link please share (thus far I have only been able to locate version 2) Much appreciated, Sonic

Thanks, I actually saw that. BUT...it seems you need to open an account just to try the download. And so far, every single site that has Rough Rider listed (regardless of the caption or the image) really ends up either being version 2, or in most cases redirects to the mfr site - which again only has Rough Rider 2. May I enquirer why you are interested particularly in v1 ? I became curious and did some searches, and also only found v2. I see this states W8 as min. requirement for running, was a bit surprised with that. First time I see that high minimum. I'm on XP/W7 so it wasn't anything for me.

Yes, correct, the reason is there's apparently a compatibility issue for people running Win7 and earlier. Whether it is an installer issue or run-time issue, or both I'm not sure. But I'm not about to risk borking up my DAW to find out. Sonic

Huh, "Win 8 or greater," never even noticed. I guess my Windows 7 DAW doesn't know that because it runs Rough Rider 2 just fine. Maybe it's just with certain hosts. Of course, I consider Windows 7 to be "greater" than Windows 8, so who knows.

It would be helpful for those of us on pre-Windows 8 if someone had any insight to share as to what the RoughRider 2 installer does. Does it use the same name DLL as RR1 (RoughRider.dll)? Is there anything else added as part of installation..... maybe to a start/program group? It's hard to tell what the RR2 installer is all about by just looking at the download since it is a single executable (unlike RR1 which was a DLL that had to be manually copied). Maybe someone running Win8 or later with RR2 already installed could take a quick look in their VST directory and the start/program group to see what the RR2 installer may have done.... Sonic

According to Dependency Walker, RoughRider2.dll does not have any external dependencies beyond standard Windows libraries, which means it doesn't require an installer - just drop the DLL in and rescan.

Euthymia Of course, I consider Windows 7 to be "greater" than Windows 8, so who knows.
Windows 8 was a mess (like early Vista), but Windows 8.1 is rock-solid. Bottom line, Win 8.1 is just a more solid, robust version of Win 7, so I can't think of a single reason why anyone would rate Win 7 over Win 8.1.

Thanks much. So not even any Windows Start/Program group entries created by the installer?

I prefer Win 7 over Win 8, as I consider the latter to have a garbage user interface. It's a Win 10 wanna be, which falls flat without a touch screen. I won't touch it with a long pole. I also don't understand why people seem to be ecstatic about Win 10 ... I wonder how many creative hours have been lost due to all the wonderful updates. Personally I just use Win 10 on my dedicated business computer, where it works fine. For audio. Forget it. No way.

Any start menu entry that a plugin installer creates is most likely just a shortcut to a manual. Even if a manual for Rough Rider exists, I can't imagine anybody actually reading it.

Sorry about that, I didn't think to many would want it so I took it down after a time, but dude skin above put it back for you so all is good. I will put it back and leave it there and try to edit my original post with the new link to save any confusion. ( As long as the forum doesn't eat my post)
