Select All In Piano View Selects Tracks?

Why does Crtl-A when using the Piano view select all tracks and clips in the Track View? Is this a bug, or is this functionality useful somehow? I'm still on the first few steps of my journey into Sonarland, so maybe this is just a feature I don't understand. At this rate, I'm learning about five new features a day!

Open Pianoroll view and press Ctrl+F9 then Ctrl+F10.

I wasn't really looking for a workaround, but thanks for the info anyway. Is there a reason why this is necessary vs. Crtl-A which is the windows standard? That was really my question.

I think it's logical that ctrl+A selects the project, and clicking the track (or what Vovchik suggested) selects everything on the track. When I work on PRV, I have a custom layout open in which the lower 2/3 of the screen is PRV and the upper 1/3 track view, so it's very easy to choose where to click.

I do agree, though, that there's a point in what you say.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

I can definitely see how that would work with your layout. When working in PRV I have the view maximized across both screens, so I was very surprised to close the PRV view and see that I had copied and pasted 100s of tracks. Manually deleting them wasn't fun! I've never used any program where "select all" actually selects things in different windows. All of my IDEs (for example) support multiple document interfaces, but they work in the more intuitive way where "select all" is limited to the active window. Oh well, just something I'll have to get used to.

Not to bump an old thread but I searched for this very reason.

I always do CTRL + A and everytime I say to myself friggin eh!

I tried CTRL F9 then CTRL F10 but it didn't do anything for me.

    Using Sonar X1

I tend to drag the mouse from the top of the piano roll down to the bottom but then just blast everything 100%

What is the correct way to select all within ONE piano roll?

    Simple.

Just click & drag through the 'keys' in the virtual keyboard to the left of the screen.

Just make sure you click enough of a vertical range to encompass all of your Midid notes.

That's currently how I do it, however I dislike this way of doing it since it plays every note at 100% velocity. Depending on what I'm editing my monitors can blast me with sound.  So I have to mute, then drag, then unmute.
