Select buss using mackie controller

Would be great for us mackie control users to be able to select a buss using the hardware as we can already in the track view..currently in track view on the mixer selecting a track goes to and highlights the track in sonar..but the busses dont have the same feature.

Ah thanks john for the reply..I didnt mean switching from track/aux views where the faders show the busses or the tracks...I meant you cannot use the track select(button above the faders) when in aux mode... but you can in track mode.
Unless someone knows a way around this??

...(it works in modern Sonar)....it is just not indicating that on Sonar side.

I've noticed that you've been tremendously helpful in getting other SONAR users through some pretty tricky issues. I am revisiting a long-standing issue, and I need your guidance on the best approach.
 
I am using a full-size Behringer X32 with Platinum, and I happily mix in the box. I want to experiment with out of the box mixing, and either way, I have always wanted to control the busses with the built-in Mackie Control functions on the rightmost set of faders. At this time I don't want to bite into the complexities of OSC and using the left set of 16-fader layers. 
 
My intent is to re-configure my X32 from its current 32-input, 8-out-from-SONAR into simply 32-outputs from SONAR's 16 stereo busses, and (as a first step), simply capture the mix onto the USB stick on the X32.  After getting comfortable with that, I'll figure out the X32 routing to be 32-out-from-SONAR, and 8-into-SONAR to do the resulting out-of-box mixing without the clumsiness of importing from a USB stick.
 
The problem has always been in getting a way to allow the Mackie Control function of the X32 to run the busses instead of the tracks. Can you help?
 
If it's better for me to join your forum and discuss it there, then I'll do that.

..."assign DAW Remote commands to the ASSIGN section on the X32", you should be able to assign some X32 buttons in "ASSIGN" section to send corresponding messages:
"Track" - Note 76
"Save" - Note 80
"Main" - Note 81
...

I am unable to verify that the MIDI note actually makes it into Sonar.  In an open project with Mackie Control Surface engaged, I can move the WAI indications up and down the tracks with the Bank and CHN controls I have configured in the Assign section, but the MIDI notes don't have an effect.

I tried enabling a MIDI track for recording in that same project, and set its input to be the XUF_USB port and MIDI channel-1 that the X32 Remote function is using. However, no MIDI information ever arrives at the track. It's possible that some kind of filtering is happening in Sonar to prevent the MIDI Note info from ever arriving, and it's possible that the USB connection itself isn't implemented in a standard way in the driver. 
 
I'll try later tonight to change the X32 setup from Card MIDI (USB) to 'normal' DIN MIDI In/Out, through my iConnnectMIDI2+ interface to see if that makes a difference. Should I be able to record the MIDI that comes in through the Assign section of the X32?

All buttons on MCU are Notes. If X32 can not send them, that mean you can not assign any without trick.
 
But note that when some MIDI input is assigned to MackiePlug-in , you can not record it into MIDI track. Just imagine you record a MIDI track and move some fader (for backing track). Since quite often you have input set to Omni and faders are sending PitchBend, the result will be "creative"...
 
An option is to modify MackieControl plug-in (it is open source) to use some other MIDI messages for these (may be more) buttons. I can do this without problem, but there are several notes:
1) I am away from home, so I can create that mod only after 2 weeks
2) This plug-in was developed quite long time ago and I am using recent build chain (Visual Studio 2015). So the result is not binary the same, can have some problems. I have published one of such moded binaries, so you can test either it works: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3311275
3) You will still need some MIDI message triggered by buttons, but as I understand you can assign something which is then delivered.

After a few exchanges over in the Behringer forum, a few kind people did some testing in parallel with my efforts, and the combination led to a very satisfactory answer:
 
The root cause of my specific problem was in the Setup screen of my X32 interface. The "MIDI Control Interface / Card MIDI" box was not checked. Even though all the other Mackie Control functions worked without the box checked, none of the MIDI notes that I assigned/configured on buttons would be sent unless that box is checked. 
 
The Mackie Control protocol in SONAR uses MIDI note G#5 (80) to select the bus (busses) and MIDI note E5 (76) to select the track(s).  In the Assign section of the X32 I chose set-B and picked buttons 5,6,7 and 8 to be Mackie Control Bus, Track, Main, and Bus (yes, twice) respectively.
 
Many thanks to azlow3 for your offers to code stuff for me, but I won't be needing that help; perhaps keep a rain-check for another heinous problem.
 
Going forward, the plan in SONAR is to standardize 16 stereo busses across projects. In that way, an arbitrary number of tracks can be routed through those busses, and my choice of doing my traditional ITB (inside-the-box) mixing or experimental OTB (outside-the-box) mixing can be accomplished with simple scene swap in the X32.
 
I hope others who needed this function can benefit from what I learned along the way.

The MCU does it out of the Box in Sonar.  The only problem I have with pressing the select button while having Aux selected is that I can't see the Buses as being selected in Sonar when I press Select.  I can see the select button lit on the MCU for each Bus I press select for, however, in Sonar the pressing of the select button doesn't appear as it is selected in Sonar for the Buses.  
 
I can see my Plugins on the Buses as they appear on the MCU scribble strip and see the physical changes in Sonar after pressing P. on the MCU. Also, there are  a lot of other functions available as well.  
 
I love my MCU because it works so well.
