Selecting different instruments for pre-written MIDI

Hi everyone, I'm completely new at this, and I'm coming from a programming background so a lot of the definitions are still over my head. I do not have a piano keyboard hooked up to my computer. I have written a MIDI by using Anvil Studio (I think that's called a music sequencer?). It has 3 instrumental tracks (fiddle, trumpet, and flute) and 1 drum track.

I'm trying out the Sonar 8 Producer Trial Edition. This is the first time I'm experimenting with the different sound banks, specifically the one that came with the demo, PSYN II demo 1. My question is, I'm assigning 2 instrument tracks to use PSYN II demo with different sounding instruments for each track, but every time I play the whole song, both tracks are using the very same instrument even though I have a different instrument selected for each. I'm probably not using this correctly so let me go through my steps.

1. Add PSYN II demo 1 to the synth rack
2. Select track 1, Solo = on, Input = Omni, Output = PSYN II demo 1, Channel = 1 (default), Bank = Bank F, Patch = Buzzy
3. Play and hear nothing. Turn Solo = off on Track 1. Play whole song and hear new instrument applied to track 1.
4. Track 1, Solo = on, and I can now go through any instrument and preview the new sounds. I select Patch = Acoustic Bass.
5. Track 1, Solo = off, play the whole song and notice it has the newly selected instrument.
6. Track 2, Solo = on, Input = Omni, Output = PSYN II demo 1, Channel = 2 (default), Bank = Bank F, Patch = Flute Tracer
7. Play and hear nothing. Turn Solo = off on Track 2. Play whole song. Track 2 AND Track 1 are both using Flute Tracer instrument.
8. Track 1's path is still pointing to Acoustic Bass. If I Solo=on on Track 1 and select any other instrument, they all sound like Flute Tracer.
9. If I Solo=on on Track 2, I can then switch instruments and preview the sounds for Track 2, but whenever I play the whole song, both Track 1 and Track 2 are using whatever instrument Track 2 is using.

I tried doing this without touching the Solo portion also. How do I change the instrument for each track? I tried to look through the tutorials to see where I might have gone wrong but a lot of it deals with the piano keyboard hooked up to the computer.

A bonus question, I was hoping to create a MIDI but use Sonar for better sounding sound banks/instruments, then I want to export it to WAV. Is using Sonar overkill? Is there a simpler program out there that can load sound banks that I should look into? Preferably user friendly please =)

Thanks!

I found my answer somewhere else. Basically, some sound banks are buggy and act this way. The solution is to import the sound bank as many time as needed into the synth rack and assign it to each track. THEN you can use different instruments for each track for the sound bank.
