What is the easiest way to route a track from Sonar out to an external device and then back in? Let's say I have a vocal on track 32 in Sonar X1. How would I route this out to one of the 10 outputs in the back of the VS-700R? I assume I would then need to bring the signal back in via on of the normal 8 inputs, but maybe there's a better way. So, how would I route the signal from a single track out to an external device (in this case, a TC Helicon VoiceWorks Plus)?

Channel-# ? out to Helicon. Helicon to channel-#? in on a different track. Arm that track to record. If you're doing it live with input echo enabled, make sure you only enable the first or second track, not both. It may be tricky. There is a danger of creating a digital loop back. Mic to input on track 1, track 1 output to Helicon input, Helicon output to track 2 input, track 2 output to Master or Monitors. Or you can fiddle with putting the Helicon on an effects bus.

Konradh, Check to make sure your outputs are enabled in Preferences/Audio/Devices/Output Drivers. Once enabled, you may have to scroll to the right of the "Main Out" (far right) in the console view to see the added outputs.

I think the part I was missing is that I need to right click in the track properties and insert a send to the V-Studio outputs. Oddly, though, the choices are all paired (1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10). I want to send a mono track to one of the 10 outputs.

Hello, I'm not sure which version of Sonar you're using, but with Producer Expanded if you go to preferences be sure to check "Show Mono Outputs" and you should be able to select individual outputs. As for best method, that probably depends on how you want to implement the signal chain, my first guess would be to use a bus... which of course default to stereo. Best wishes

There's a little button in each track header. That's the area to the left of the track. Make sure it says All. You will see your inputs and outputs listed. Your Helicon is going to plugged into those inputs and outputs. Either Mono or Stereo depending on the Helicon. You will find the same input-output dropdown lists on every track or buss. Routing is something you really have to learn.

Glad if I helped. Hey guys, now that I have your ear(s), can someone please verify if the Aux input on the console is indeed stereo? While it sounds like a stereo image, I've had two different synths in two different daws so far act strange with attempting to pan from their source controls. I've also tried using two different stereo to mono pair Y-cables. When panning from either source device I get either full signal, or roughly half - but it appears to be the same exact amplitude on both channels. Yet, when routing headphones directly out of either synth, it is clearly panning distinctly in either channel respectively. So, is there a toggle switch or something I'm missing on the back?

Another way to do what you are trying to do is to use SONAR's 'External Insert' feature. Basically it takes a pair of inputs and outputs and puts them in a little convenient VST-like box. It also allows you to measure and compensate for delay introduced through whatever device you're sending the signal through. Check the manual. -e.B

If you're talking about the connector on the front of the console. I'm almost certain that it's a mono connector. I believe that it's designed to be used for guitars or dynamic mics. -e.B

That's how I have mine set up. Dyonight above was kind enough to help me set it up through emails so I can now use it like I would a plug in using it to record with the helicon efx on then tweaking and changing the efx after and then freezing the tracks its great.

I believe you have the option of recording all your mono tracks in stereo... I always record all my junk in mono...If I need some sort of stereo effect it usualy is done with what ever plugins that I use.. I don't use synths much at all so I have no need forstereo input... well there is off axis vocal micing...etc...
