Sending Files, 10 meg and larger over the Internet?
I know I've seen info on here before about sending larger file over the internet, but now I'd like any info about this again. My server only allows me send files 10 meg or smaller....well I ran into a problem with a mp3 being larger than what was allowed. Where can I upload/transfer?? larger files on the internet? Thanks again, Michael

yousendit.com They let you upload large files to a server, then it sends an email to the person you want to download the file...... It's free and works great if you want to send someone a large .WAV file. I have used it a couple times and know other people that use it..............

You can try this. Especially useful if you want to send the same file to several recipients (distribution), since it allows storage of files that you can allow others to download. Free version should be plenty for occassional use. A caveat: Not for secure transmission, as (like email) the files are not encrypted in transit to or from the site. Access to the files stored on the site is supposed to be "secure" in that they can not be accessed without a password. http://www.adrive.com/

If you're doing this regularly, you might also consider just getting a basic but "standard" paid hosting account from a place like Lunar Pages (www.lunarpages.com) or even GoDaddy (www.godaddy.com). Those guys have some very reasonable rates. Then, you use a free FTP program like FileZilla (www.filezilla-project.org) to upload the file(s) to your webserver and then email people links in an email. No dealing with time limits, ads, or other restrictions, and you can even password-protect directories very easily.

Another yousendit.com user here. I use it all the time. It's faster than my ftp site at uploading. Great for sending files.

ORIGINAL: garrigus Yep, just go to GoDaddy, get your own domain name and set up a basic hosting count. Everyone should have their own web site anyway. Then you can FTP files to your own hosting account and just give others a download link. Scott -- Scott R. Garrigus - Author of the Cakewalk Sonar and Sony Sound Forge Power book series. This is a little more complicated, and the person on the other end need some FTP experience. But this works great for collaboration. t

If you're looking into your own hosting, check out http://www.webmasters.com ... been around since '94, and I've never had a problem with them.

One more for the list: FolderShare, part of the Windows Live setup. It's a private p2p setup. Very handy for collabing, or just keeping a notebook and a desktop synchronized. And free. Cheers, Russ

Scott + 1 million million :-y To anyone who says it's too much trouble I suggest to you that gaining experience and skill with a ftp application will prepare you for the opportunity to ftp to some one else's ftp server... which is how music is transfered for many paid services. If you ever get that break thru opportunity to sell some music to another production it will be a real benefit to have this skill at ease. best regards, mike
