Sending Midi CC command to effects unit

How do I send a midi cc code (cc# 27, range 0-127) to an effects unit. It's a Helicon Quintet, and that's how I'm supposed to change the gender on one of the harmony voices. thanks.

    Here's one way:

Insert MIDI Track. Input: None Output: your MIDI output port connected to the Helicon's MIDI In.
Right-click within the track. Select Envelopes -> Create Track Envelope -> MIDI ...
Highlight the Value (1-Modulation by default), and replace it by typing in "27".
Right-click on the flat line envelope that's been created. Start adding nodes, changing curves, dragging around node position, etc.

Thanks for that. Now I've got the line in the track, and when I drag it up or down it changes the value of CC27 from 0 to 127. But how do I send it to the Helicon? It doesn't seem to be going to the Helicon (at least it's not changing the gender of the voice). Everything's hooked up correctly, CC is turned to ON on the Helicon, channels match (chan 1). Any ideas?

Look in the device's manual. Is it looking for an off/on command or does it take different actions based on the value sent?

Do you have a MIDI indicator on the Helicon that will tell if it's getting MIDI data?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

In which case the only values you need to use are 0 and 127 as with cc64 (sustain). Also, if this is the case, you might be better off drawing the cc values in the controller pane in Piano Roll View.

    Good luck,

I guess what I'm asking is: When I insert the envelope with the CC# and value, what does Sonar do with it and when/how? Does it send the CC as soon as I change the value? Does it do it when I hit Play or Record?

I've got an email to Helicon about what the situation on the Quintet end.

    Thanks.

The CC will be sent to your TC Helicon unit during playback at whatever point you have the CC command placed on SONAR's timeline. I have another model harmonizer but I believe that there is an on/off command for ALL HARMONIES as well as an individual on/off command for individual voices. You can confirm that in the manual and make sure that they are both on. Another thing to be aware of is that if you are using one of the presets on your unit, make sure that your command to change the individual voice is occuring after the preset is being invoked. If you place the CC to change the one voice before the preset is invoked, when the preset comes online, it will change whatever setting you made to the one voice.
