Separate Snap not working in X1C...or haven't got it set right
Hey chillun, I've got my little separate grid in the PRV set to 16ths and its "blue" as is the little grid box. My TV snap is set to measures. But try as I might I can't enter notes in the PRV without them trying to snap to measure. So, either it ain't workin or I've done something wrong. I'm working on a commercial project this morning and need this to work if possible. Thanks for any info.

There is a bug which stops separate snaps but as far as I'm aware only if you have a drum map as the output. I haven't experienced on any other PRV other than that.

Yup...that's it! It's only NOT working on my drum track. Thanks FBB! I think I can workaround that.

Drum maps are one of SONAR's most powerful features and something that sets SONAR apart from other sequencers. It's a disappointment that Cakewalk forgot about its drum maps when it was replacing the PRV snap to settings that it forgot to include.

It's a disappointment that Cakewalk forgot about its drum maps when it was replacing the PRV snap to settings that it forgot to include. To me it's actually somewhat surprisng that there's even a relationship between the two. Drum Maps just remap note numbers and output ports. I wouldn't expect that to have any bearing on MIDI editing except insofar as it changes how notes and note numbers are displayed in the PRV, but obviously it does.

I just can't believe that Cakewalk can't hire a 16 year old intern who can keep track of details like this. It just seems like someone, somewhere within the organization should be able to utter "hey that's not right" and a system should kick in to fix stuff like this before it becomes released as a world wide embarrassment. This has defined my experience with X1... a feature that truly I enjoy, "snap to" in PRV with drum maps, has been non functional for the past 10 months. The feature that I find that I miss the most when I use ProTools is drum maps and instrument/note name labeling in the PRV. Cakewalk would do well to appreciate the advantage it has with drum mappings and it should stop undermining it's own credibility by squandering the opportunity to provide a feature that is missing in the competition. all the best, mike

I think I'd call.......... "snap to" in PRV with drum maps, has been non functional for the past 10 months. a slight exaggeration, okay then a big exaggeration. Snap to does work it just uses the global snap rather than the PRV snap. The work round is to set the global snap to the resolution you want. A PITA yes, a bug yes, non-functional - no.

Yes, we both know we have a different perspective about this. My perspective is that I still have a fully functional Snap to function, with drum maps in SONAR version 8.5. All an X1 user has is a varied selection of work arounds (depending on which version of X1 they use) to accomplish the very same functionality that I have learned I can take for granted in SONAR version 8.5. It appears that you equate a work around to functionality and I equate the disappearance of two previously available functions as a de evolution. Can we agree that we disagree? best regards, mike edit spelling

Can we agree that we disagree? In the interests of consistency I'd rather disagree that we agree. Is that ok with you?

Well it's mostly due to my "muscle memory" I guess but when the dual snaps aren't working it's really worse than a PITA because my brain will just NOT remember to switch the TV snap every time I enter my drum track in the PRV. First...I'm still occasionally awakened to life again by the cacophony of clicking on a note before clicking OFF the insane default of all notes selected in the PRV...then, when I try to insert a note...it doesn't appear...or, I should say it did appear...but on top of another note on a measure boundary. I then have to undo that, go up and change the TV snap settings to 16th and insert again. Yes, it's my sheer stupidity at not being able to remember the "new way"...but you programmed me Cake!!! I'm your friggin Robot!! I'm afraid Dave. Dave, I'm afraid.

@Mike - I'm always friendly - life's to short to be otherwise @yorolpal - another workround is to reassign the track port directly to the drum synth/machine and then switch it back when you've finished, or alternatively don't use a map at all, although I know that's not always feasible but if everything is going to the same synth it's not such an issue.

No one mentioned that the PRV grid view value always reverts to quarter note every time you change the snap value, drum map or not, global or PRV. Reported and acknowledged prior to X1b, subsequently acknowledged for X1c. The work around functionality of SONAR X1 is exceptionally testing at times.
