Nice composition.  The only suggestion I would have would be to send everything to a Medium Hall or Chamber to add some reverb/dimension to the piece.

I agree the composition is engaging however it sounds in very unnatural space.

There is on every string track Garritan players own concert hall effect. ....hmmm.. maybe too little, because I wanted that it does not sound like too big.

I like the piece, but echo Mr. no999's comments about the hall. Also, the GPO :-( It's good from a far, but far from good... Try EWQL Gold if you can? Also, work on the cc codes for articulation/vibrato. And then finally, riding the faders to make it breath better (in conjunction of course with the instrument panning which I'm sure you've already done)

So Strings? (like this) should sit "Left to right" as they probably do. However, they should also sit "in the hall..." With some being closer (less verb) and some sitting farther away (more verb)

Then there's that whole tricky legato/vibrato/butter sustain thing? It all needs to breath and at the same time fit together? It's non-trivial... It takes hours/weeks of trial and error. But in the end? It's worth it.

Sittin downtown in a railway station one toke over the line.

    Good tips
Strings are panned left to right violin 1, violin 2, viola and cello... maybe too tight, on the other hand too wide gets listener sitting in the middle of the orchestra.
playing with keyboards It's difficult to get sounds like real strings
As you wrote, I have a lot to do with reverbs, panning and faders to get more dynamic and better sounding track

Nice composition!  I only listened to the second version but I think the reverb level is pretty good.

As far as adding realism goes, that's usually outside of what you played into SONAR.   I'd recommend splitting your strings into separate MIDI tracks and using a combination of Modulation (GPO uses this for volume) and Pitch CCs and possibly the track MIDI Volume as well on the individual parts.  That way you can get each part to breathe a little more (as Robbie noted) without having the entire section follow the same pattern.

Something like that I've tried to do. In the Sonar strings have their own tracks and I've done own settings for them. Difficult to get software strings sounds like real

Oh, I hear ya.      I've found in some cases that over-exaggerating the intended result can sometimes work better in context since everything is based on static samples.  Trial and error and all that.

    the composition sounds great.

Very nice arrangement. I think the trick in adding realism might be to simply change a few velocities and lessen the degree of vibrato, maybe some very small timing changes ( nudge ever so lightly)...a really fine piece of music though!

hmm.. I guess there is some variety on velocity and timing, 'cause I played every instrument with velocity-sensitive keyboards, and I didn't use quantize in Sonar tracks

This is nice. I like string ensembles quite a bit. I have no idea about midi coding either. I can write the music but all that articulation and whatever, I'm lost.

    Well done!
