Serious Question.

I'm asking this in all seriousness, honestly.

Not sure how to ask or explain it but here it goes.

Has anyone here ever experienced what can only be explained as a cramp in your sphincter muscle?
I woke up this morning to my anus having a heart attack.

WTH is that and how do I keep it from happening again because it has happened quite a few times over the last 2 years or so.
I've looked it up on line and even asked my doctor but the best response I can come up with is that it's a cramp.

Maybe from spending hours sitting at my DAW? Maybe I should set a timer and get up every so often and move about?

I have all sorts of ailments but not that one.

I hope it is nothing serious. Time to see the Dr. I'd say.

The timer and some periodic exercise is a good idea.  It may or may not help your cramping, but it will help avoid blood clots.  Trust me--avoiding blood clots is a good thing.  I hope it helps your situation, too.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

    Thanks for the concern guys.
Doctor says it's nothing serious. I think I'm going shopping for a new chair for the studio today.
I can't remember the name of the company (for some reason Harmon Kardon keeps popping in my head but I know that's not it )  but I know of one that makes extremely comfy chairs for offices and are meant to spend longer periods of time in.
And I am going to try to remember to get up and move about more often while engulfed in my mixing sessions.

I have the Aeron on the "office side" of the studio. On day I hope to have another on the DAW side.

I've had my Aeron for what seems like 15 years now.

    Yes.

It can be prostate, colitis, hemorrhoids, a small tear in the bowel lining, hernia, nerve entrapment... big list and the exams for them are less than pleasant. I have also had the pleasure of feeling like someone has hoofed me in the groin when there seemed to be no cause. Pain in the human body is not always very site specific. The actual cause may not be where you feel the pain.

For me the likely cause was nerve entrapment due to the fact I commute by bicycle. Over the years riding takes its toll.

Oh I know the nerve entrapment thing.

The non-referencing pain thing is an issue with me as well. Because I have a diabetic form of neuropathy it is quite the thing to wake up in the middle of the night with pain/tingling/needles and pins or just plain numbness affecting your sleep

Mike if the doc is not a specialist maybe a second opinion
    from one is in order.
Your educated guess may be correct but personally I'd
feel better knowing two doctors agree.

OMG too funny. Docs can sure make you feel worse than you did eh? My favorite is the "standard" question: "Have you engaged in any anal sexual activity?".

If I had the balls I would, as a lark,  say "why yes, I was just friggin myself with the toy this morning, why, could that be the cause?"

But he would probably write that down and then it would be on the record for the rest of my life. Not sure that would be worth a few minutes of mirth.

And I thought this was a serious thread.... yeah right!

I've heard of this... it doesn't sound like fun. When I was in the military, leg cramps were common at night and painful. It came from exercise like running, and lack of minerals (I've heard that a lack of calcium causes cramps).... but IDK about the thing you described.

The best remedy I have found for cramps was to exercise  and stretch the muscles...... I don't know how that's gonna work for you. Actually, if you figure it out....I don't wanna know.

I played sports into my late 30's and I would always get WICKED cramps in my calves and sometimes my toes.  The worse though was just waking up, doing that morning stretch and being greeted with a sudden cramping.  If I didn't jump up IMMEDIATELY and put weight on those areas (not as easy as it sounds) I would end up with a deep bruise-like feeling that would last at least a day.  Once my weight was fully on my heels the pain would ease almost like magic, then I would do some stretching to keep it away.

I found that drinking more water, taking a Magnesium Potasium Aspartate capsule before bed or a Quinine tablet at the onset of cramping helped a lot.

If I hadn't already had to deal with these types of cramps I'm sure I would have made some kind of anal-retentive joke already.

For any sort of cramping you could increase your intake of quinine by drinking tonic water or they do make over the counter leg cramp/restless leg medications that contain a very small dose of quinine.

These were recommended by my doctor when I started taking a medication for the Graft. vs Host scleroderma I have post bone marrow transplant, the medication Gleevec, most commonly given to chronic leukemia patients, has the side effect in many of causing severe cramping - for me it's mostly in my calves, feet, and hands.  Over 50% of people taking Gleevec can't continue at a therapeutic dosage due to the cramping, but for me the benefit has been worth managing muscular cramps.  He recommended the quinine in tonic water since the prescription version of quinine has been restricted by the FDA as only to be prescribed for Malaria treatment (I used to take it about 5 years ago for a separate cramping issue, but the government cracked down on off-label usages and you can't get a prescription unless it's for Malaria now).  It has helped the majority of the cramping, some serious cramping incidents still require something a bit stronger at times, but it does help.

    Hope this helps.

oh, jokes are allowed by all means.

Just google cramps in a** and laugh at some of the ways that others who felt this pain describe it.

Fox...I had the same thought but don't want on my chart about the possibility of personal and frequent anal probing with kitchen utensils.

Yep, something I have to do is move about more. Might try a plain no arm kitchen type chair with a pillow. Never found an office chair that is any good while at the computer except perhaps a plain one which I do not have. Standing up at the computer and having a desk that can raise up and down would benefit probably a lot of people at a computer. Put in a tread mill and than walk at the computer also while standing up with the computer up high enough.
