Session Drummer 2 Step Sequencer Piano Roll

I got Sonar X1 Studio and realized that it didn't have a multitrack drum synth. So, I downloaded Session Drummer 2. SD2 does not have a step sequencer button, probably the 32/64 bit thing. In the CakeTV video Drum Production part 3 it says to click on this button to make a new Pattern. I can't get the step sequencer to give me a new pattern until I do something like Bounce to Clip and make a new Groove Clip out of my last pattern. Then I get a new blank Pattern.

How do I work around not having the Step Sequencer button in SD2 and getting a new Pattern when I want to?
Without having to completely finish with my last pattern. I might want to go back and change the number of measures a pattern will play.

I could also use the Piano Roll/Drum Map. But, when I use those it gives me extra stuff that goes over into the next measure. I saw someone doing a tutorial on groove clips on youtube having the same problem. Any ideas why that happens?

Select a MIDI track that is pointed at SD2, and hit Alt+4 (default shortcut to Views > Step Sequencer).
