Session Drummer 3

forgive me please if I am in the wrong spot. I am using session drummer 3 and I am in the Step sequencer view. Somehow I have managed to hit a keystroke or something that has changed all of the row names from things like, Kick, Snare, HiHat, Etc... to things like Eb Ab Bb Cb C E A Etc.... kinda like piano roll view or something. Can someone please help me learn how to change it back? I have been reading for an hour and I can't find it. Please Help,

Sincerely.

The new guy

It sounds like previously you were using a Drum Map, and now you've changed the Midi Out for the track to direct to Session Drummer. (This will also change if the Drum Pane is being used or the Piano Keys in PRV, if you were editing here)

Go the Midi Track and select the Output Box (marked with an O) to DM1-Session Drummer (I think, I don't have it installed to see exactly what it displays to)

If you are using Simple Instrument Tracks, Open the Track Inspector, click the Midi tab at the bottom and the Midi Out will show (There are two outs in Simple Instrument Tracks, the MIDI and the Audio, so normally its the Audio that shows in Simple Instrument tracks)

A drum map is not required for Session Drummer to display instrument names in the Step Sequencer or Note Pane in the PRV. The instrument names are supplied by the plug-in. Close the Step Sequencer view, make sure the Session Drummer has focus and re-open the Step Sequencer or double-click on a Step Sequencer clip in the Session Drummer track. This should force the Step Sequencer to reload the names from the plug-in.

Does that mean that Drum Pane is always used in PRV with SD3?

No
There is a function in the VST spec few plug-ins implement that SONAR calls when loading the Step Sequencer or Note pane in the PRV. If the plug-in returns note names, they are used instead of the default values. Session Drummer has this feature.

So do you get an option with these VSTs to open in Drum Pane or Piano Roll for PRV?

Let me expand my thinking, incase I have got something wrong. With a normal VST, if you have drum maps selected, in the PRV view, you can only see it in the Drum Pane, not in the Keys. If you do not have VST selected, then you can only choose to input notes on the piano roll in PRV

Whether the PRV displays data in the Note Pane or Drum Grid has nothing to do with the plug-in. All instrument and MIDI tracks use the Note Pane unless there is a drum map defined for the track. If there is a drum map defined as the track output, the Drum Grid is used.
