Set Up questions Laptop with X1 Producer, V-Studio 100, A-800 Pro and old midi equipment
I've been a Cakewalk customer since it was Twelve Tone, but a newbie to Audio or DAW (Used MIDI only, into a 4 track Tascam leaving 2 tracks for audio). I've purchased upgrade after upgrade hoping to put a computer together that would be compatible with the software to use a SONAR DAW. My last setup I did without problem was with my 486 B&W Compaq Laptop with Cakewalk (MIDI only) using a MusicQuest 2 PORT/SE MIDI Engine, DX7 II-D as controller MIDI IN OUT to the 2 PORT and THRU from the DX7II-D to a MX28X midi patchbay, connected to a Proteus1 module, Roland Digital MKS-20 module, Alesis Quadraverb (effects through mixer-MIDI not utilized), CR 1604 Mackie mixer, Alesis HR-16 drum machine and Crown BASE-1 Amp w/spkrs. Replacing the amp & spkrs with Yamaha MSP3 Monitors for home studio.
Well I finally did it!! Scott built a fantastic laptop for me - ADK 9000, 3HDD (2x750GB, 1 500GB) 17", i7 960 3.2 GHz Quad, 8 meg cache, 12 Gigs of memory, W7 PRO 64bit, etc. Upgraded to X1 Producer 64bit-installed. A V-Studio 100, A-800 PRO Controller keyboard (for X1 Producer built in sounds and hopefully add on Garitan if I can get this all set up).
Hook up questions. I was not going to use the old MIDI stuff, (Couldn't afford the V-Studio 700... took long enough time to save up for this), but found out for all the orchestration/tracks, I may need to use MIDI for a base as I did with the Tascam, save as Audio and add audio to that. So, how do I hook all of this wonderful equipment up? Taking the MIDI IN/OUT that would have gone into the 2 PORT keeping the DX7II-D as a MIDI controller, would that go into the V-Studio 100 or the A-800 PRO? My guess is the V-Studio 100. Does both the A-800 PRO go USB to the laptop and the V-Studio 100 go USB to the Laptop?
