Setting Project endpoint?

I am having brain fade... can someone remind me how do i set an endpoint on a project so that playback stop, or that an export does not contain gaps at the end...

thx

Sonar will export the selection if you make one, so ctrl>A to select everything and then set the range up where the timeline is

Thanks, I had not previously set a timeline upon export so thats a good tip, but is there a way to set a fixed point to denote an end in the timeline that will stop playback?.. i thought i recalled some preference in 8.5.3 to that effect..

No, and I don't recall being able to do this in any previous version.

Sonar will export what YOU select - even if you select nothing (ctlr + shift + a)

Jonesey, my last question is not related to export.. it is related to playback.. I know i previously have had projects that have stopped playback on their own volition and some which keep playing long past the point of no sound unless stopped manually.

In track view, go to options, then select stop at project end.
That should get you what you are looking for.

On the Track view, pull the Drop Down for Options, and select Stop at Project End. Playback will stop at the end of the last track (+ any time you have in global preferences for playing tails). Caveat: If there's any automation writing or muted tracks this setting is sometimes ignores this setting completely... Some say it's a bug, others say it's a feature.

With all that said, I have had 2 things happen in the past

1)  A rogue node (usually volume) was discovered 3 miles downstream, thus making the transport bar continue on it's journey after the music stopped.

2)  A random bug with no nodes or events, but the transport bar kept going anyhow.  I have not had that one in X1 yet but a few times in 8.5

Thanks to all for the input and ideas to check through, the setting i was thinking of was of course "stop at project end" (forgot it was under track view>options) which was set once and forgot a long time ago.

So, knowing that wasnt it, diving through the offending/irritating projects i had sporadic muted/hidden tracks with unused takes & clips moved minutes downstream, and a couple of volume nodes in right field.

I think the lesson to me here is to be more organised with unused material....
By habit i would simply mute, move out of the way and or hide.. so I need to either use a track folder for these bits and not move them stage right, or probably better, store them in the project folder and keep them off the track view altogether

I usually work in cubase and something I was doing, import or loop recording or something that would make the project so long that I couldn't scroll just a little bit, when you move the scroll bar you move to the right a few hundred measures.

I shortened it in the project properties that shows the bit depth, sample rate, etc. of the project and it has a length property.

So nothing like that in Sonar?

I think the lesson to me here is to be more organised with unused material....

I think we all need to learn that lesson!  I personally tend to store my unused stuff in new tracks within the time window of the song, but even then I've discovered that the audio engine is still "dealing" with those tracks even muted...  Me personally I'm starting to set a threshhold.. if I've left a piece of material on the cutting room floor longer than a couple editing sessions, I must not need it.  I knew that DEL key was there for someting. :)

Jonesey, my last question is not related to export.. it is related to playback.. I know i previously have had projects that have stopped playback on their own volition and some which keep playing long past the point of no sound unless stopped manually.

I am definitely losing it.
I swear I read export somewhere.

lol.. As you can tell by the simplicity of the thread I lost it a long time ago, so you are still ahead of the curve...:)   ...oh..and it was in there somewhere and resolved (export) , leaving me with the issue of playback (a.k.a. why am i not organised enough)

thanks!
