Setting up EWQL Gold in SONAR 6 Producer

I recently purchased SONAR 6 Producer Edition. I was using Finale 2007 to compose orchestra works, but I saw the effects and advantages that SONAR had over Finale. The only problem is that I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set up the EWQL Gold in Sonar. Could someone please help me get SONAR up and running with EWQL so I can start composing again?

Thanks!
Chris

Did you install the DXi or VSTi version? If VSTi, did you run VST scanner -- and make sure it points to the folder in which EWQL was installed?

Are you having trouble with other soft synths or only this one?

Tools--> Cakewalk Plug- In Manager--> Options--> Add.... and find your gold's VST dll

Uncheck Re- scan existing plug- ins

I added both the VST and DX folders to SONAR. The Kompakt interface comes up, yet when I load an instrument and strike keys, I hear no sound!

When I open SONAR from the dektop icon i get this message: http://s202.photobucket.com/albums/aa60/dmknappy/?action=view¤t=FirstError.jpg

After I open a new (normal template) it looks like this: http://s202.photobucket.com/albums/aa60/dmknappy/?action=view¤t=MainScreen.jpg

The Synth Rack view looks like this (I do not know what to use): http://s202.photobucket.com/albums/aa60/dmknappy/?action=view¤t=SynthRackView.jpg

When you insert a soft synth, a options dialog box should come up...make sure audio outputs and midi inputs are checked.

Smth wrong with your sound card.. You probably can't run 2 sound program at a same time.. For instance, close your winamp or media player, there should only be sonar

Tick on "first synth audio output"

Before that you must get rid of audio warning when you click on sonar exe

Realtek HD Audio cards dont work in notify mode. Sonar cannot use a card that doesn't allow it to work in notify mode. You can try to use the drives that come preinstalled with Vista, but I doubt that will work either.

RE: Setting up EWQL Gold in SONAR 6 Producer 2007/08/13 09:15:54 (permalink)
    BTW, it's called "Event/Notification mode".

You can try this (From Noel, Cakewalk CTO)

There is an interim solution however until Realtek writes a notify mode WaveRT capable driver. You can use the built in Microsoft HDAudio.sys class driver. I have tested this driver with the RealTek chipset and it works properly. To use this driver you must first uninstall the realtek driver and then when you get the new hardware prompt navigate to the folder in Windows that contains the .inf files. It should find the Microsoft HD Audio device as a default driver there. Use that driver.
Once the MS driver is installed you should get working WaveRT output in SONAR.
Another thing you might need to do (I had to do this on the system I tested with). The BIOS was incorrectly reporting some info to the Microsoft driver and I got no inputs reported. If you have this problem the solution is to get a BIOS update from HP (which they probably don't have haha<g>) or get what is called a "pin config" registry patch.

I would try that. It's more likey to work than the other suggestion. Just be sure to get a copy of your realtek drivers, because you'll need to delete them before installing the SB drivers. I don't know if the SB will work correctly under Vista, but I am almost sure that they did in XP. Only thing is, if you do any kind of recording (of audio), you'll have extremly poor latency.

I am familiar with the Audigy performance, but not in the field of sequencing. Creative has a Vista driver for their cards now.

Go to options, audio, advanced. Increase the buffer size to around 200 and something. Try for 256. Check to see what driver you are using *(WDM)*, and increase latency (after changing buffer size).

I/O buffer size. I told you to increase it to 256.

Latency, you do know that setting it too high, is just as bad as setting it too low right?

But 2 things, that are very important.

    1. You are using a soundcard ment for people who play video games. Not for someone using a serious audio aplication.

    2. You have all kinds of crap running in the background, and Vista is already a memory hog.
