Setting up a second X3 install

I am going to start a project in a new location and will need to use Sonar when working there. Should I download all my files to the second computer, or create DVD's from the files I already have on my primary computer?

I searched for a file list for creating disks but haven't located it yet. The X3 producer package has all I will need for working at the new place. Too much hassle to install most of my other software.

Regards, John

You could go either way.  If you are running Windows 7 or 8, it already has disc burning functionality within the OS.

If you do burn to DVD, it will take 2-3 discs to get the install files all copied for transfer to your 2nd machine.  It would be faster to burn than to download again.

You also have to decide if any projects are being copied over, as well, and go through that process - which could get huge, if a lot of audio in the projects to be copied.

It might be less hassle to sprint the $70-$90 for a 2 TB external USB 3 drive.  That would be lots faster for both download and for the transfer to the 2nd machine.  You could do your sample libraries and project folders that way, as well, all in one shot.

Plus, it would give you a nice external backup of all of your current projects and Sonar and samples too.

The external drive was at the top of the list, along with a powered USB hub. I'm being given a laptop for the project. It's an i5 with lots of ram and an AMD video system. I won't be installing Sonar on the machine, but on an external drive. I find many laptop drives are poor choices for audio applications.

I figured that the install would have to be done when the drive was connected to the laptop. It would be really nice to pre load everything at home and just take the drive with me each day. I could track there and mix here, only moving the drive. My concern is that the software will want to profile itself with the computer and not run when connected to a different box. I know windows has issues with that sort of thing.

My suggestion would be to download to the new location and dont bring more than you need.

Won't work as an install on external disc that gets moved around. See this thread.
