Setting up mic and midi devices in sonar professional - STRUGGLING

Hi All, noob here.

I need to connect three devices to Sonar, but the only thing I've been able to connect is my guitar.  The two devices I cannot get to work are:
1. Akai MPK49 midi keyboard and controller
2. Blue Yeti USB microphone
[I already have a Guitar set into input 1L on the Tascam that is working fine.]

I am just trying to set them all up at once in a home studio using a Tascam 366. So no more connecting and disconnecting to share one input.

I guess I have two options,
1. I could buy 5 pin midi cables for them and connect to the Tascam 366.
2. They are USB, so shouldn't i be able to add them without even getting midi cables?

I have followed the instructions for adding them in midi devices (watched the vid on CakeTV), but when I add them to tracks, the only option for out is the same device - can't make output to the master or tascam 366.  Anyway, how do I find help with the best ways to connect these kinds of setups?

Also, as a side note, can anyone else not add images to this messageboard?

Thanks,
Dean

Connecting MIDI via USB should not be a problem. There could be a problem trying to use the USB microphone and Tascam interface at the same time. The ASIO specification only permits one audio driver be active at a time. You should consider a microphone which connects to the Tascam interface.

The way I read your post is misconception of what midi is.

Midi need to target some kind of device that generate audio - to route that to master.
This device that takes midi may be a loaded VST Instrument/synth plugin or external midi gear like synths and modules.

There are two ways to handle VST synths:
    1. Create a simple instrument track - that takes midi as input and generate audio as output.
The "simple" option you get by Insert Soft Synth - and the dialog that pops up.

    2. Insert Soft Synth also for dialog but make separate midi track. In this case you can have multiple midi tracks targeting one soft synth - so the midi track only target devices that take midi, not audio.

And you get a separate track for soft synth that generate audio for you.

Either method you use create a synth entry in Instrument browser to the right of track view - synth rack.
Standard key to toggle visible is key 'b' on typed keyboard.

    Hope you get somewhat started....

Get rid of the USB mike. Those will never work properly with Sonar. Sonar needs ASIO drivers which you have with the Tascam.
