Severe Buzzing With Console Emulator In X3c
Hi all, I installed the X3c patch earlier and when I opened a project there was an extremely loud hum. Closed that project and opened another. Same loud hum. I traced it to the Console Emulator on the tracks. If I disable the CE the hum goes away. I have rebooted twice and it persists. I had no problem before today's "c" install. Any ideas why this is happening or what I can do about it? Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks for the help!!

[this post is pre-marked as unhelpful] It sounds like you may have the "Bought At A Swap Meet Console with Untraceable Ground Loop" or the "Bar Gig Off Stage Near a Neon Sign" emulator selected.

Not solved here. Did the rescan, and right hand channel of console emulator goes right up and buzz starts. Doesn't seem to happen with buss emulation.

Which version of the CE Emulator are you dudes running currently? Go to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal\Console Emulator and highlight either .dlls. Right-click and go to "Properties" and then the "Details" tab. What does it say under Product Version? -DG

jb101 Dan, did you get the project?
Yeah, he passed if off to me (or he passed 'a' project to me) and I tested it. It's not buzzing on my end. Though someone in house was able to replicate the buzz on a different system/project. Somethings definitely going on, getting to the bottom of it.

I'm very curious to find out the answer to this one - it looks like CW themselves have one of those "broken here but works there" type of issues.

Experiencing the same problem with CE noise here. Hardly noticeable on the S-Type as is visible on the interface meters, increases in magnitude a bit when switching to the N-Type, and much more pronounced on the S-Type. Very strange that it does not seem to manifest on every track. Some of the CE meters don't register the noise at all. Others show degrees of deflection as described above. Switching the emulation type to A-type on an affected track pretty much buries the needle. Don't know if these observations help. Sure hope that this will be sorted out quickly!

I don't know if it's related, but this is very similar to an issue I'm seeing with Izotope Alloy 2. In a mono track, I see a maxed-out fluctuating level in the right channel meter. The left meter doesn't show anything. It may only happen when the saturation effect is enabled in Alloy. Perhaps the Console Emulator's crosstalk is causing whatever is going on in the right channel to show up in the left? I have been assuming that the issue was because of the way Sonar doesn't have "real" mono tracks, as is also shown in the way it uses the same UAD dsp on a mono as on a stereo track. I will see if the issue with Alloy has any correlation with 64 bit engine. I need to do a bit more work to figure out the Alloy 2 problem, so it might be different anyway.

I can also report that it only seems to appear on mono tracks. It seems to behave like a type of feedback. If the trim and drive are both moved above 1 db, the buzzing ramps-up to the point where the right meter is pegged. Moving either the trim or drive down a few db will cause the buzz to gradually diminish to the point of being inaudible.

Mine is not very loud, but noticeable. I have most CE's set to trim +2 and drive +2.
