Severe latency problem

Hi all,
 
My Home Studio Configuration is Toshiba Qosmio, Windows 7 Professional, 4 GB RAM, EDIROL M-16DX, SONAR X1.
I am facing a severe latency problem and dropouts for the playback in my my Laptop. I used the DPC Latency checker and surprisingly it goes higher than 2000 µS, where my desktop which is comparitively of a low windows experience rating index shows a very low latency value (below 200 µS). I checked my device manager and disabled/ enabled all the network, modem, usb host controller one at a time and checked again and again and I found out that the latency value came to <800µS .
As a very good gaming laptop, I expected a very good Latency response from my Qosmio.
How can I optimize my laptop's performance?

    let me guess you bought the laptop before checking forums.

    most off the shelf are terrible for audio

    try these things

    1) in device manager disable ACPI battery
    disable fingerprint reader, card readers, modem

    you may have to try running video in VGA mode (ugly)

    in control panel diable all power saving features

    if that dont work take the laptop back and buy one from a DAW builder or Apple and bootcamp (and thats not the best answer for Sonar)

    THe gaming machines are made for sweet video and fast refresh rates and all that stuff that doesn't matter to audio users like us.

    The thing that matters to us is the audio latency rate and the RAM available to hold samples and synths. ( a few other things too...)

    One of the most important parts of the audio computer is the soundcard or the interface you use. IF.... you try to use the factory soundcard that comes in most computers (especially the laptops) you will be pulling your hair out in frustration.

    The best thing you can do is to visit a music store that has a recording dept and speak with the folks there and buy a decent audio interface with midi inputs as well.

    I recorded many songs on a factory...off the shelf laptop, for a number of years before I built a desk top for music. The saving grace of using the factory lappy was I bought a music interface to get the audio & midi into the computer. My latency, measured in milliseconds is under 10ms. And that is with NO tweeking and no shutting things off.

    i have an off theshelf toshiba running windows 7 4 gigs of ram an intel i3 processor.and i run awesome..BUT!!!..and there is a but.you can exspect the audio soundcard that came with your computer to do anything but play decent mp3s and you tube videos its not ment for recording digital audio..you should be running your mme drivers for right now untill you get a soundcard.there is one other option to avoid paying for the soundcard and it is asio4all..its a latency driver for recording audio so you can plug into that little 1/8 inch hole in the side of your computer laptop..but dont exspect stellar results from a free downloaded driver.do the right thing..splurge on a soundcard(audio interface..till then you can use asio4all..do a google search youll see it.read the instructions or you wont even get it to work.
    its a good habit to get into to read up a little before spending 400 dollars on a software on the system requirments and nessacary accesorys that go with recording audio on a computer.theres more to it than just pluging in a cord.but your not the only one..i did it too years ago.

    wait...have you down loaded your edirol drivers and installed them?..they are asio right?..if im reading this correctly you need to update those drivers from rolands website and you shouldnt have asio drivers for that.make sure there showing up in the preference menu.

    Hi all,

    Thanks for your kind advices. I have my audio intefaces, with latest drivers installed. Eventhouh I am using the External Sound Card, (Edirol M-16 DX, and UA 101), I found out the problem caused for my droputs are not  related to the Sound Card or the driver mode. I think I need to go for a better DAW oriented Laptop.
