Sfz Player in 8.5.2 64-bit won't play .sf2 files?

Anyone else tried to load a .sf2 file into the Sfz player in 8.5.2 64-bit version?  When I click on the Program area of the player I can navigate to the right directory, where I see my collection of .sf2 files, but selecting one doesn't do much - the Sfz player still shows a blank program, and no sound comes out.  I downloaded a free .sf2 file from the intertubes and tried it - same result.  I'm stumped - any ideas?

I ran into the same problem with Producer 8 running under Vista x64. After trying several other free VST soundfont players, I downloaded version 1.9.7 of sfz from Cakewalk at http://www.cakewalk.com/support/project5/sfz.aspx and installed it. I have not used it a lot, but it does allow me to load .sf2 files, select various patches within an instrument and use it on multiple tracks without any issues. Might be worth a try in your case.

I just hit this wall myself, and 1.9.7 is the version I have.

Anyone know of any other work arounds? Did you get this solved, spinlock?

    Thanks!

Just an update for folks w/ the same problem loading files in 64 bit.

As noted above 1.9.7 did NOT work for me, but I updated to the multicore version of SFZ and the file select problem evaporated.

Thanks to the person who is hosting the file that can be found here at the bottom of the page.

I hope it works for those also experiencing troubles. This file is not available on CW's site for some reason.

    Best,

    Kev-

Thanks K dub,  I'll have to give this a try as well.  I've had no luck with SFZ or SFZ+ in SONOR 64-bit under Windows 7.  I'm hoping this will do the trick!

    Thanks again for sharing.

I had this problem in a different sense.  I purchased a small SoundFont library, only to discover that Dim Pro will not load sf2 files.  There is a free sf2 to sfz converter that is quite elegant, and allows you to both convert existing SoundFonts and to create your own.  To convert, you open the product, and do an import of the sf2 and save it as sfz.

    You can find it here:

Set the mode to PR32 in SFZ.

Set the mode to PR32 in SFZ.

Yes, this gets you around the insufficient memory problem in SFZ.  However, not the issue some have been experiencing in 64-bit or running multiple instances in 64-bit.  For example, I'm not able to get SFZ to load *.sf2's at all.  This is even after changing the loading mode in SFZ to PR32, and the BitBridge Configuration in SONAR. :(

Can't wait to give the K Dub's suggestion a try.  Hopefully this will do the trick (ifngers crossed).  It seemed to work for him.

BTW - Cakewalk was giving that version away (sfz+). Not sure if they still are. I just tried it and it does work in 64-bit Sonar, but its finnicky. Crashed my Sonar a couple of times.

    Hi Daveny5,

If you get a chance (and it doesn't crash your SONAR) ...try running multiple instances of SFZ+ Professional and let us know how that works for you.

I can't get SFZ Player to even load sf2's, but SFZ+ Professional actually will.  However, when running as a single instance it works fine.  But, when running multiple instances of SFZ+, the audio playback gets more and more "static-ee" with badly stuttering audio playback. :(

Thanks so much!  Just wanted to know if this was normal with 64-bit.  I contacted tech support and they reccommended re-installing SONAR 32-bit for use with SFZ and SFZ+. :(

You must set it to PR32. I loaded 2 instances and it worked. Upon the 3rd instance, it went to hell. Keep in mind I only have 4GB of memory.

I tried the multicore version of SFZ that K Dub suggested above, but no luck.  Even after switching the loading mode to PR32, I still wasn't able to get SFZ to load a sf2.

However, SFZ+ will load soundfonts (after switching the loading mode to PR32, that is).  However, as Daveny5 described above, after inserting a 3rd instance the audio playback became really stuttered. :(

Anybody know of a good 64-bit SoundFont player they would recommend?
