Shameless plug for Waves Universe...

I deal with several companies when purchasing plugins and have some favorites but my experience with wavesuniverse.com over the last couple of days has put them at the head of the pack...as far as waves plugins are concerned.  They flat beat out everybody...by a wide margin...in both price AND customer service.  Highly recommended.

Mentioned it earlier in that other thread. They got me my serial in 8 minutes after I completed the purchase.

I'm having issues w/ Waves site right now, trying to upgrade GTR. I think I may put Waves Universe on the mission for me.

Thanks to Bitflipper again for mentioning them recently.

I feel that same exact way about UAD. Superb sonic quality and the best customer service of any company I deal with in the audio industry. On the flip side of the coin, I was recently treated very cavalier by Neve customer service. Two brand new 1073's with inoperative 48V phantom power. Short, terse emails from them sent in a untimely manner. My 2¢...

Man, Waves Universe rule - not even an hour, they did all the background check and have a solution for me - one that saves me yet a few more bucks. I like spreading the word when people do good - thanks for the opportunity OlPal.

Waves themselves have been impeccable the few times I've communicated w/ them.

They're actually the only company I've seen who "close their transactions" as I called it in my days of customer support. If you ask them something then write back even just to say something like "nevermind, I figured it out" they'll acknowledge and thank you. That's something I've always done myself as I felt it was part of my job.

OTOH, SSL lost me recently - I had an inquiry/issue w/ the Duende demo license. No reply whatsoever. Worst is I was waiting on their reply to make up my mind about the essential bundle. Had they answered, I was already half convinced. I went elsewhere instead.

It's so high on the shameless scale that only a select few are "invited" to purchase it.

You guys shouldn't complain - getting a driver's license down there in the States is downright easy and ridiculously cheap.

It'd cost me over $1000 in Quebec to get my apprentice license. It'll cost me under $50 in Vegas. Easy decision, after all those years.

    $50!!!

Hold on, I could get me one of those CLA channel strips for that...

    Very interesting stuff here.

I'm intersted in the Waves Doubler and I notice that it's $112 but that Musician Bundle 2 (which includes Waves Doubler) is only $99. Seems silly not to go for this.

If choosing not to use a USB flash drive, how many DAWs can your plugins be used on without having to recloud licences back and forth. I own two you see.

The Musician Bundle 2 is quite a deal indeed.

The authorization for Waves plug-ins is valid on one computer at a time, so if you intend to do a lot of back and forth between them and don't want to re-cloud licenses, the USB key is probably the best option.

FWIW, the license cloud is very easy to use and quick, so it may not be as cumbersome as it seems.

Nah, I don't have Sonar w/ me here.

I had been testing Blacky and CLA-2A mainly - which I both preferred to my previous models - but I was happily surprised when I switched to Bluey - man, that thing is angry!

And I find myself using the CLA-3A quite a bit too.

Next here probably is H-EQ - which I remember you mentioned too. Maybe I'll demo it today. I had previously tried 112 db's Redline EQ and I dug the concept of having all those different filter types per band, but the plug-in itself felt slow and clunky and there was just so much latency.

H-EQ has even more filter types per band and adds M/S and all those cool things like they piano roll. Definitely looks like an awesome plug-in.

    Thanks Rain
Does this require that I also install Waves V9 software?
If the clip in the Waves support section is anything to go by, I don't think I can get away with boucing licences from clouds to different DAWs with my particular setup. I dabble on an ad hoc basis at times using my internet capable PC which I'm typing from right now. However, my main DAW doesn't have internet. This means, I would not be able to login to the Waves Licence Centre on my main DAW and fiddle around moving licences. Am I correct?

If so, it looks like I would have to recloud from my internet machine to my USB stick to use on my main DAW and then recloud from the USB stick when wishing to use it on my internet machine. Or, use the stick all the time.

What I will do though, is buy a new stick exclusively for this so that it it doesn't go all funny with constant file moving/pasting/deleting etc.

The price of Musician 2 is the same on the Waves and WavesUniverse websites so can order from both.

Thanks to everyone on this thread for the heads up on this and to everyone on Bitflipper's thread.

    Stewart,

You're correct in your assumption that authorizing your offline DAW could only be done via the USB flash drive. Might be a very good idea to have a dedicated USB key, as you mention.

V9's the way to go - prior versions required iLock and weren't 64 bit. What I'd maybe suggest is to download the demo + license center installer (WOLI). Once you have that little app installed, just launch it and you can download any or all Waves products to demo them, directly from that interface.

Little word of caution - you must also request the actual demo authorization on Waves Web Site (a matter of a simple click). Then you can authorize the product you've installed for 7 days using the Waves License Center. If you skip that first part, WLC won't find any demo license to authorize your demo and the product you've installed won't show up in WLC.

If you decide to buy it, for registered members, usually Waves Universe is a few dollars below what you can get buying directly from Waves. Creating the account at WU is free, of course, and allows you to see/get members discounts.

Then it's just a matter of registering your product key on Waves site, running the WLC and your authorization will switch from demo to full - no need to re-download anything.

Sorry for the novel there - from what I gather some people had issues in the process when trying to demo the plug-ins so I thought this could maybe be helpful to others as well.

Definitely looks like a potential go to for me here. EQ's the one thing I still haven't settled for anything - beside Kramer HLS on guitar - it's the secret ingredient that I was after. Amp sims change all the time depending on the sound I'm after but HLS is key to making any of them work in the mix.

    Hi Rain

Thanks so much for your advice there. That was outstanding regarding the demo tips.

Just noticed that you can get CLA Compressors for $199 at Waves Universe due to a 20% promo. Although I have UAD2 (triad), I don't have the UAD LA3A ($159) and I intend getting it at some point. By the way, I already have UAD's 1176 ans LA2A.

I figured that, if I spend and extra $40 now, over and above what the UAD LA3A is priced at, I can get CLA Comps which has an LA3A plus an LA2A, 1176 and 1176 Blue Stripe. My logic is that if I require a lot of intensive UAD DSP for hungrier UAD plugs in the future then I can fall back on the CLA Comps for the general FET and Opto comp duties (natively).

I think I'm on my way to convincing myself to get this. It seems too well suited to my needs. Bang goes my plan not to buy stuff this coming month.

By the way, I've decided to go Musican Bundle 1 and not 2. This is due to me wanting the Metaflanger along with the Doubler I originally want. If I'm also going the CLA route, I figured I could lose the Renaicence comp and EQ Musician Bundle 2 has and I have lots of EQs in UAD2.

    Thanks again

    My pleasure.

Admittedly, if you have UAD and the nice UA EQs, it makes sense to get MB1.

I think the $199 price tag is only valid until 03/31 (today) though - Waves is having what they call the March Madness Sale and Waves Universe use that as a basis for their own pricing. That doesn't leave a lot of time to take a decision. Maybe it's worth dropping them an e-mail to verify, they're usually quite fast at replying (though I don't know about weekends).

OTOH, I've stumbled upon an e-mail dating from February and some of those same bundles were 50% off back then too. And Waves have constant promotions.

I don't think you can go wrong w/ CLA. To me, just the regular 1176 and the 2A were already worth it. I knew I needed those 2 models. Then I switched the blue stripe which totally won me over, and then the LA-3A which I'm actually using more than the 2A. I've waited and waited until last night but there was just not point in missing that sale - anyway, they're already all over my mixes - I just kept adding one here and another there until there's one of CLA's comp on almost every channel. I'd hate to lose those cool sounding mixes and start back from scratch because the demo has expired. ;)

except the signature (but when i tried them i was on a dualcore I5)

Rain , you have the helios ? nice higly underrated .....the PIe also , i prefer the pie on kikcs and snare better than the 1176 !

They're quite easy on the CPU, indeed.

Even the CLA comps are working smoothly, considering that my machine isn't really fast (MacBook 2010). I was expecting that I'd have to use them sparingly, that I'd keep them for the crucial stuff but I just keep on adding instances to see how they'll sound on this and then that and oh wait let's try one over there on that bus and maybe one on that other bus and before I realize it I have them all over the mix.

Helios is the first thing I bought when V9 came out. I use it systematically on guitars. It used to be that I'd record something and I'd never be sure how it'd sit in the mix, so I'd go back and lay down all those tracks using different sounds, re-recording instead of just re-amping because I won't play two amps the same way.

HLS gives me the confidence that pretty much any sound I choose when tracking will sit in the mix w/o me having to painstakingly sculpt it. Smoothens the highs, brings those mids right where you want them and tames those low.

    And yes PYE is incredible.

They're on every song I work on, unlike other models which just sat in my plug-in folder waiting for me to find the one thing they really made a positive difference on.
