Sharing project files with another user.

What is the best way to share project files with another user?

Do we have to bundle? Or can we just share the project and audio files. Basically I have a project that has time snapped  on some tracks, and would like to know if I really have to bounce them to bundle. Or just share the project.

Doing this over an FTP. But having some issues there as well. Permission etc.

Using per-project folders, just zip up the folder and share. Assuming the person you are sharing with has the same plugins and SONAR features nothing else is required. Bundles are unnecessary.

Also custom sounds in session drummer. Aka a kick I made. Will not save in a bundle. I thought all audio went with the bundle.

Any custom stuff like that will need to be synced up for sure. You might want to do that separately because it is not part of the project but a mod to the synth and might be reused in the future.

Dumb question what program would you use to zip?

Every version of Windows supports Zip so just using the OS that might be the easiest. I personally use 7-Zip.

Windows 7 has built in capability to create zipped folders.

There are a couple of weays to do this, either as individual files or by folder.

I like to do it this way:
    1.  If you have created custom kits or patches for a sunth and want to send these too, I usually create a folder within the project folder, and call it something like: Additional Items.  In that folder I also place a text or Word document that explains where to put anything from this folder, to make the project open cleanly within Sonar at his/her end.
    2.  Somewhere in Windows Explorer, wherever it makes sense for you to do so, right-click in the white space somewhere, and select New> Compressed Folder.  This will create an empty compressed folder.
    3.  Now hit the Windows Start button and click on Computer.  This will open up a second instance of Windows Explorer.  In this window, navigate to your Cakewalk Projects folder, and right-click on the project you want to send to your buddy.  Click on copy.
    4.  Now switch to your Windows Explorer window that is on the compressed folder you created, and paste your Cakewalk Project folder into the compressed folder and close everything.  You have now created a compressed folder with your project in it, and you can transmit this to your buddy.

Please note that you will still often have large audio tracks that will keep the folder size larger than many email programs will accept for attachments.  But you could still use Drop Box or some other file sharing service to get the compressed folder to your buddy.

    Hope the above help,
