She's Devine (She's the Bomb)

Hi to all.  Did this this this this weekend.  Here's a draft.  Need solo guitar, Bapu on bass and Jubilee vocals.  Bapu, if Jason wants to B3 it, great!  Will finish drum parts later.  Whatta ya think of the the idea?  I seem to be in the blues kinda thingy these days.  Lead vocal has some spikes but wanted to see what you thought.

Thanks.

You have a great piece here.  Your voice works well for this type of Blues.  I love the musics move into the first vocals around 0:28.

The song is great as is.  We all arrange differently due to our preferences and influences.  Please understand that my thoughts are not critiques, just the sharing of ideas. My thoughts:

    1) get rougher with your vocals.  I can tell your vocals can do it.  Each section of melody starts similar.  Mix it up and work more tension towards the end.
    2) Like Stevie Ray Vaughn, put more licks into the melody section.  The guitar sound is good and should contribute more.
    3) Maybe walk up the scale into the solo sections so you feel the drive leading into the big lead guitar.
    4) Don't hesitate to take the vocals above the current register.  Start a section an octave higher then work it down while singing. This technique fits this style well.
    5) Blues can have a dead silent spot between a transition.  A silent spot can kick well into the next section as long as you hit the next section's beginning hard.
    6) You could modulate.

    Man, I like the song.

    Regards,
    Lance

EDIT: Clarified that my thoughts were ideas only, not critiques.

You have made a good start.  To me this number has a bit of New Orleans Blues/R&B feel to it (e.g., Lazy Lester).  I look forward to the finished product.

Dude, I wouldn't change that vocal for anything!  You have a great blues voice.  I like this song as is but can imagine the other things.  I love Julianna's vocals.  She sang on my tune "Missing Person" a few years ago and sold the song!  However, I think you have the perfect tone for this tune.  If Bapu's busy I'd be happy to sit in on bass for you!

Cool song.  You could take all the suggestions in the world, but this would still work.  You can always start a new song.  Songs can take on a life of their own once you start fiddling with them.  I look forward to hearing what you consider to be the final version, then I will be able to make a better response.  Good start.

I love your song and your ideas. It needs a male vocal due to the lyrics though so I'd keep that part as is.

If you hadn't mentioned this was a draft, I would have thought it the finished piece and rated it five stars. Add Bapu and Jubilee and this is going to sensational. Your voice is perfect for this piece so you might think about alternating with Jubilee on verses and then combining in the chorus. Already one of the best pieces I have heard here.

Warren, thanks for the offer and kind words.  Can I take a rain check on the the bass?

Lynn, thanks much for the encouragement.

Bapu, I was hoping you would be up for another one!  Jason and Jubilee's help is always welcome.

Malcomb, WOW!  You are very kind.  This song just fell out of somewhere (I just don't know where) and I am so glad you like it.

Oh, it's a great song, to be sure, and I honestly wouldn't change a thing... Some backup vox might be nice, but I'm afraid I'll have to bow out on this one.  I'm really sorry, but I have work coming out of my ears at the moment.  :S

Great dance tune!!!  Sort of a hip-hop blues weld.

RMS levels may be a bit high for radio or theater play ... but this seems perfect for skating, the dance floor, and/or driving.

Thanks much Jamesg1213.  The numbers 12 13 are significant with me.  Do they mean something do you that you can share?

Hi Philip.  Thank you.  "Hip-hop blues weld".   I like that!  I take it as a compliment that my RMS level is high.  I use the new Concrete Limiter on that rough mix and pushed the db's about 3 hotter than I normally would.  I did not detect any distortion that I could hear and did find the levels were much greater than my usually conservative approach.  Thanks for pointing that out.

I think the bass is a little to loud. Just a bit though.

Thanks much Jamesg1213.  The numbers 12 13 are significant with me.  Do they mean something do you that you can share?

Nothing very interesting..back in my band days I used to get bored checking the mic's with 'one-two, one-two', so I'd say 'one-two, one-three, one-four-and-a-half....'

    Ya?
