She's My Blade - New Wave/Alternative Rock
I just finished this song and I would love to get your feedback on it. I used Sonar Home Studio 7 and some extra plugins. I tried different drums for this project. I think it worked out better for me. I tried to use less reverb also for more clarity. http://www.soundclick.com...282913&songID=11577642 Just remixed this one.

I like the song, reminds me of someone but can't put my finger on it. I thought the mix was a little quite overall but the bass in particular needs bringing out a bit more, in fact the whole drum/bass level is a bit too far back in the mix in my opinion. The guitar lick between vocal lines was quite over powering but Id look at bringing everything else out a little more rather than dropping that back. It 's almost like there's too much going on at the sides and not enough meat in the middle, if that makes sense. My tuppence worth.

You're right! Thanks for the feedback. I panned most of the stuff hard right and hard left. Except for the drums, bass, and vocals.

Love the eighties vibe. I hope that's what you were going for, if not I'm sorry. I can hear Gary Numan/Billy Idol influences which can never be a bad thing in my book.

Hey, Steve, How’s it going, man? Doing great, I hope! It’s good to see you back around on the forum. Excellent job on this killer post-punk rocker! I’m on my second listen. Great songwriting, arrangement and instrumental performances, perfect drums, dynamite vocals, and you’ve got a fantastic, fresh sounding mix. It reminds me of a cool fusion of The Cars and Billy Idol with a more modern style, and well polished production. Spectacular work, Steve, have a good one, buddy! Bob

Only listening on lappy, so make of it what you will, but the bass is missing to the extent that I was even wondering if there was one until I eventually heard it in the mid section. Another vote for the Billy Idol-alike camp, but you must be well used to that by now! I'm not 100% convinced with the snare sound, comes across a bit GM here, but that could be the crappy speakers doing their thing too. Good vibe overall thoough, just needs some tweaks.

Wow thanks guys... I just remixed it with alot of the changes mentioned. It took AWHILE. I pumped the bass more and the overall mix. Bob - Hey brother, its been awhile since I've talked to you! I still marvel at your production. Thanks for the kind words. I just noticed alot of the good sound of a mix is really eq. Paulo- Thanks for listening! I don't mind the Billy Idol comparison. :) Sometimes I use samples for drums... But this time I just used TTS drums or whatever you call the drum kit that's already on Sonar Home Studio. I think I might take a break from mixing for awhile :) I used OP-X for the keyboards and they were a pain to mix and get a consistent level with. I might go back to using Reason

I like the unpredictability of the chord progression in this piece. I only heard the remix, but it sounds clear and well defined on my system. Interesting idea for a song.

Foxwolfen - Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad I have touched somebody with my music. I was listening to your music and really like the synth sounds. What do you use? Lynn - Haha! Unpredictability I like that...Thank you! I guess I wanted the chord progression to express the lyrics more than I usually do. Going from the key of D major to C Minor is kind of weird, but added a new dynamic. :) I watched your video on soundclick...pretty good mix! Good bass and vocals. The style reminds me of Crosby, Steels, Nash

This is a great song and on my system it sounded fantastic. Love the vibe and everything was right where it needed to be. I would have boosted the vox just a tad but that's all!

Steve, Ugghh, I cringe when I listen to my stuff, hehehe. I still have a lot to learn. I use mostly Z3TA. I fell in love with it a few years ago, and find it hard to use anything else. Its is versatile, has big fat sounds (almost analog), and stable as a standalone instrument. Second most used is probably my old Korg M1. Sounds are dated, but it still has some cool stuff. Cheers Shad

bayoubill - Thanks for the kind words! I worked alot on remixing. :) Chad - I'll have to look that up. I really like the older synthier sounds. The more dated the better in my book
