Shifting MIDI tracks question

Hi Guys,
Working on a fast staccato type bassline in the piano roll which sounds perfectly in time if I shift the whole midi track left a couple of milliseconds.
This is probably because the bass is coming from my access virus and although the latency between hardware and Sonar is what I would describe as very low, that couple millisecond shift to the left really pulls it tight to the tempo.

Obviously (and here is my question) when shifting the track I also end up pulling all the notes out of alignment with the grid slightly which then makes editing a pain.
Is there any way, or any workaround, which I could employ just for this single midi track so that although technically it would be a couple of milliseconds ahead of the rest of the project the MIDI data still aligns to the piano roll correctly?
I'm sure this has been a technical stumbling block for others in the past so any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Cheers!!
